Mpg

I've just had a drive out to see a friend, and I deliberately tried to achieve a high mpg, and this is the result.

At one point it was just over 80mpg, but after getting back home and parking up it dropped to 78.5mpg. This was in Eco and Regen3, and I didn't go over 55mph.
Here's mine ?

Hi All,
Lots of impressive numbers in the previous posts but just had a thought is anyone confirming the numbers on the display by doing refuelling tests? i.e. the milege driven divided by the amout of fuel needed to fill up (assuming you started with a full tank that is!!)

Hi cooperman

No, I don't think these figures are calculated in this way. They must come from the MG3's fuel consumption calculator.
Knowing that the calibration is the same on all MG3s when they leave the factory, the basis for comparison seems right.

However, it would be interesting to compare our fuel consumption on at least one tank of fuel to give those who don't own an MG3 a precise idea of its average consumption.

When I picked up my car from the dealers it was supposed to have a full tank and that's what it showed on the fuel gauge so I assume this was correct. Although I didn't manage some of the numbers quoted in this thread, on my first refuel at 265miles I squeezed in 22.91l which I think is around 5.04 gallons. If my sums are right this gave a result of 52.6 MPG the accumulated mileage on the car display showed 53.4 MPG so not a million miles out!!

On my first fill-up, when the light turned amber with a message, I had 1,099 gallons (5 liters) left and 55.30 miles (89 km) of range.
so I did 279.61 miles (450 km) for 6.82 gallons (31 liters). which gives me a consumption of 34.14 mpg (6.89l/100).
normal, I tested the car and a lot of static to adjust it.
the screen shows me 36.19 mpg (6.5l/100)... small difference with actual consumption.
and once fueled it showed me 385.87 miles (612 km) which compared to full fuel would give an average consumption of 40 mpg (5.88l/100)???
how does he get this average consumption?? ... a priori not depending on my consumption between these 2 fill-ups!

1. Fuel warning light came on filled tank 30 litres so I can confirm 5 litres left in tank.
2. 278 miles for 30.02 liters = 42.10 mpg not far off computer.
3. Driving in normal mode, regen 2 , city driving and a lot of Air con.

4. Heating setting Fan lvl 1 or 2 air con temp 20 22. Blower Direction window and feet. Auto seems to have a mind of it's own so so I take manual control.

For my next tank will try Econ mode a bit more. Computer seems in line with petrol in recorded miles.

A funny thing happened to me today...The distance remaining showed 260 miles at the start this morning. After driving about 18 to 20 miles it showed 270 miles remaining! Later, when I arrived home it was showing 259 miles. Am I going mad?

The calculation of the economy on the remaining petrol in the tank,
is updated continuously (in real time) based on the driving style and relative consumption, while you drive.

[ Moderator: autonomy → economy ]

If that's the case, I must be earning road miles. The more I drive the less petrol I use??? Don't think the Chinese are that clever. But thanks anyway, gian.

The distance remaining is calculated mainly on your current mpg, and the mpg in your accumulated totals, so if on one journey you were a bit heavy on the accelerator pedal, it would go down more than you'd expect, then on another journey you may be driving very carefully and frugally, so the mpg would be less than you'd expect. This can also easily occur in a single journey if your driving style changes as you're driving.

It is not exact: "The more I drive, the less gasoline I consume".
The more you drive correctly, the more the economy (at that moment) improves; regeneration increases the economy.
- it will necessarily decrease as you travel more road, or you drive more recklessly.
I noticed that: in the city, short trips, with stops, repeated = more consumption.
  • On extra urban roads with constant speed 60 /80 km/h = low consumption.
  • even on highways up to 130 km/h = low consumption.
  • sporty driving, less economy.
  • the driving mode also has an effect: ECO, normal, Sport and regeneration, 3 is the best for consumption.
With 3, even the highest road bump is smoothly overcome (even without touching the brake) and you gain Km. or miles. However, you need to get your foot used to it.
On the highway, regeneration is automatically softened, but it is always necessary.

Did you get out and push it home after the workout:)?

Great mileage. Level 3 regen on ECO?

Yes to both. I only had to slow for the traffic lights, roadworks and roundabouts, the traffic was light and I was stuck doing 30mph for a long section behind a lorry.

OK so it was only for one minute, but I'll take it.
