I bought a MG5 Trophy in September. Having negotiated with a local dealer and bartering with a Carwow quote of £21,500 I got the car for £22,000.

Curiosity got the better of me yesterday and I revisited Carwow and was amazed to see the lowest price (same car) was now £28,500. Others were north of £30k.

With press speculation of crashing electric car prices, did I get a good deal in September and why has the price increased so much?

They are not making any more MG5s and I think they have probably sold most of the old stock now. I think if you want an Estate EV you'd be looking at a much more expensive car than the MG. You did get a good deal in September - mainly because you chose the exact right time to buy.

Interesting. I didn’t know they weren’t making MG5s anymore. Thanks for the information!

Yes, you got it cheap, the others are the standard price
Last September I could have got it for £21,500 from Stockport and a few other places for slightly more. The dealers have to sell a certain percentage of electric cars each month/year or face fines, so I guess they wanted to shift a few.

You nearly got the best deal there, but hold my beer, I bought a Trophy with metallic paint for £21k in late November! ;)

But yes, I've noticed the prices are back up now, probably due to the fact there are almost none left to buy new now.

Exactly the same? White were much cheaper than other colours.

I wanted red (to replace my red pre-FL) but missed the boat and ended up with grey which is a nice colour too. Both of those were quite a bit more than white would have been - though even during that offer period the prices did feel like it edged up a little.

Yeah, Piccadilly Blue, exactly the same. I wish we went for red now. It looks a lovely cherry sort of colour, but I'm not too fussed (our other car is brown!)

When I was searching in November it seems a considerable number of dealers were mis-selling advertising all colours at a single price and then adding-on something like £645 premium (can’t recall exact uplift) for any colour other than white. Hemel Hempstead and Bath were exceptions and also agreed to throw-in both the granny & type 2 chargers. Just didn’t realise quite how long the car would have been sat in a field or that all software would be left as how it departed the factory, with zero updates under PDI (even though I’d gotten multiple assurances that full updates were included).
