New Map 23Q4: Unable to install MD5 verification failure[Solved]

Presumably they finally fixed the server files?

Or maybe you really need that update? Others please post your experiences, good or bad, along with your infotainment software version.
Same files I add still on usb from first try

Thank you for the feedback! I'm also on R25 and still getting the MD5 error....
Do you still have the zip file? can you run this command so we can confirm we are getting the same file(it's possible to deliver different files according to the region)

command: CertUtil -hashfile map-update.zip md5
Should return: 681fe684e1423993dccf2fc006b4aa08

Despite also having version R25, the infotainment update is made up of several for many other components other than the main OS(on mine i suspect they did only the main update), can you post these screens, i'm suspicious on the navigation version....

And also the telecom version

  • Can you also confirm the filesystem(exFat, fat32 or NTFS?)

  • Software used to decompress(7-Zip, Windows explorer, winrar.......)

  • If possible a picture or more details of the flash drive used

all the same formatted NTFS fully don’t no quick format

Not fully relavent, but the download worked ok with no errors on my MG4. Sort of proves that there is nothing corrupt in the zip though.

For the ones getting MD5 error try deleting those two files inside maps folder
file_verification
VN.txt

On the last update i applied (22Q1) those files weren't there, so i deleted and it started the update! no more MD5 error!!!!!

That Pdf says map update for "ZS EV LUXURY EDITION", which doesn't exist in UK. I have a Jan '24 ZS EV Trophy Connect. Is this the same thing with a different name? Do the maps cover UK? How did you find this map resource?
Thanks.

From what i coul find in UK and Europe website
Trophy = Luxury
SE = Confort
Naming changes according to region i'll check later if map includes UK but i suspect it does.

You can find instructions for map upgrade in MG's European site (tried but couldn't find it on UK's website......)

In Owners -> User Manuals section enter your vin and you'll have access to pdf files of map upgrade instructions

Thank you! I was getting the MD5 error, and this worked (I'm on R30). I wonder if the older NAV versions don't like/need those files (and give the error if they're there), but some of the newer NAV versions now require them... I noticed on other threads people getting VN.txt errors where I think they were on newer versions.

Anyway it's worked and mine are now happily updated to 23Q4!

I've downloaded the latest maps, it's an 18Gb file.
It's taking ages just to copy it onto an SD card. How long does it take for the update to complete? If it takes hours it needs to be planned. Do I have to leave it unlocked/on while it's updating?

The file linked to in the Pdf is just called map-update.zip, but I can see version.txt says 23Q4_EU_20240111021553_p, which is later than my HERE_EU_22Q3_202210091858 maps currently loaded. I'm surprised on a 2024 car that I get old maps straight from the dealer. How often are maps updated, if there's another one due shortly I'll probably wait for that.

It took me about 30-40 minutes to do the update. It needs to be left on while updating - I think in the instructions somewhere it recommended staying in the car, so that it didn't do the auto shutdown after half an hour or so, but others have said it was ok. I don't think you can lock it though as that would shut everything down.

I'm facing the same issue of MD5 check fail for 23Q4. I'm on infotainment R18 but OTA upgrade check says no new version available. Can you get the latest infotainment version in any other way?

This was a pain to complete!
Finally updated 22 ZS EV MK2 trophy connect LR that had 21Q2 maps installed that came when I picked the car up new. After a lot of trial and MD5 errors with help from on here this is how it came good.
I had software update to R25 last week at 2 year service.
Formatted San disk 32GB USB (full format Exfat, quick one didn't work for me, I tried quick format NTFS, EXFAT and FAT without success).
Downloaded file from MG Europe and extracted to desktop.(When extracting direct I ended up with the maps folder within another maps folder, this maybe something to watch out for).
I then just dragged from desktop to blank USB(2½ hrs to complete) and deleted both files VN.txt and File_verification .
The rest was just following instructions on MG website and posted here.
After successful upgrade I checked USB for file format reference in future and found an added folder to stick' Android'.
I was cautious about doing this as download doesn't specify Connect variants anywhere but tested on a couple of short journeys without problem.
Hope this is of use to someone.

I just took delivery of a ZS EV "trophy connect" and Even in january 2025 the car was delivered with 22Q3 maps, even though the seller swore up and down, the car had been connected to their computer to do updates for several hours as part of the pre delivery inspection.

I guess the map updates HAVE TO be installer via the USB port and the updates he was talking about was all of the other modules in the car.

Would have expected for them to have had a USB stick with the latest maps on, they could have fed it while they did their checks.

Would only need to make this key once and it could be used again and again, until a New map was released.

Infotainment is R25, My guess is the R30 mentioned above is the version for the standard non connect version

@hmadsen - I think the poster on R30 (@Seajays) has a MG4. I’m still on R16!! My dealer told me all updates had been done. Obviously not.

I don’t think sat nav updates are part of servicing anyway, mainly owing to the time it takes, but it’s disappointing that it’s not more straightforward for non-techy users. I did do mine once, but I don’t really use the onboard sat nav. Apple Maps work fine for me, and are always up to date.

Last 5 cars different makes, map up dates have been rubbish, often got an older map installed. Example 2016 car got 2014 maps on update. In end I bought an SD card for £20 on Ebay, had to share VIN but it was perfect., next service, dealer put old version back on but at least I could restore the newer one.
I had a Ford Kuga for a while and that updates over WiFi.

Thank you so much to those who went before on this....deleting the 2 files solved it and my MG5 now has up to date maps! In fact so up to date that it has a new road on it.....that should have been finished by now (classic government project!) but isn't!!
