New MG4 coming? (merged)

Looks to be a Chinese only model upgrade at this moment in time!

If it is due to be launced in the UK then it isnt likely to be this side of the summer, based on other model rumours in the pipeline

Honestly if they used MG3 hybrid+ interior (seems slighty better than MG4 current) along with a bit nicer materials and some styling tweaks outside, that'd do. Also ~64kWh LFP would be great

Not good enough. I know the other Chinese rivals that is not arrived/popular yet at EU/UK.

They have better interiors and tech including full OTA services. MG should invest more at overseas tech. Even the S5 is downgrade compare to ES5.

Sounds like MG have maybe been listening to owners complaints after all…

This includes higher-quality materials, bigger and clearer screens and a new array of console-mounted buttons that make minor operations quicker and easier.

I've read the article ... it says nothing about physical controls for ADAS functions (like LKA, AEB etc.), it's talking about indicators, wipers, gear selectors, horn, SOS call ... everything that's already a physical control in the MG4 for example.

Killjoy 😉

The less physical swithes and buttons the better as far as I'm concerned as they date the interior. I much prefer the simple and minimalist design.

Xiaomi's car is interesting. It comes with a big screen but you can buy an optional button-row that you can click to the screen. This i think is the best solution. Manufacturing cars with buttons in the facia is fiddly and costly. Much cheaper to have just a screen (hence why Tesla designed it that way) but adding interface pins for which you can buy buttons is a no brainer (but riskier as there will ALWAYS be people who want to hack it)

To a certain extent I agree. But would be nice to have an easier way to turn the LKA
off for example, as that seems to be the worst bugbear for a lot of folk.

That seems like a decent idea. And looks
nice and neat. If that's what you want. 🙂

LKA on my xpower doesn't intervene much at all and I don't even have SC077 which apparently makes it almost undetectable, no need for a separate button.

We love our trophy, we’ve done about 500 miles now and just get in and drive. My wife says LKA doesn’t bother her so for the price it meets all our requirements. Our old BMW was far more complicated and cost a fortune to run and didn’t look as good as yes leather interior would have been nice but the BMW cost £39,600 5years ago

I guess it was a reaction to Elon deleting the indicator stalk on the Model 3.

I've heard a lot about this.

Is it a bit like the first gen Citroen BX, where the indicator switches were on a pod next to the steering wheel?

Nope. They deleted it altogether. The car was supposed to know where you're going!
Thankfully, the stalk has been re-added to this year's model (if anyone will still buy the thing!)

I have the model 3 whithout stalks.
I don't have problem that the gear stalk removed, because the Auto Shift (beta) function is brilliant. You have to confirm the change with foot on the brake and turn the steering to the side on the screen. It's rarely not detected that you need to shift but it's still in Beta.

The steering buttons indicators requires longer adaptation. I wish that maybe in the future they will add also auto function based on the navigation. I saw some third party stalk mods for the model 3.
