Hi Folks,

I'm due to take delivery of my first MG - a brand new MG3 Hybrid+ Essence (Oct 2024, Hatch 3-sp Auto)!

I'm based in Australia, and I realise this forum is international, where models vary from region to region. Many of you speak of different variants (Trophy, Luxury, etc) that don't align with models that ship here. Which does mine align with?

It would be great to have a thorough checklist for my pre-signoff walk-around checks upon delivery. If anybody can share experiences/problems they've encountered that are body/interior/mechanical related, that would be great.

Also, I've been studying up on "University of YouTube" regarding break-in advice. One thing, in particular, I've encountered is a lube expert suggesting the best thing you can do for the long-term longevity of the motor is to do an oil change at 500mi, followed by subsequent oil changes not long after that. The theory is that shavings/debris that build up early in the engine's life are best flushed out to minimise cylinder wear and premature filter clogging. Is this good advice to follow in tandem with manufacturer recommendations?

Also, being somewhat of an Audiophile, although the audio system is passable, I think it would benefit from the added headroom of a subwoofer and dedicated amp/crossover. If anybody here has successfully augmented the audio system in this model, I'm keen to know your recommendations and experiences.

I am excited to get into my new MG, and this is my first new car-buying experience. After having 17 years motoring with my Nissan X-Trail (2005, T30 model), which died on New Year's Day mainly because of my neglectful treatment of it due to ignorance, I'm looking forward to this car and ensuring I do everything right in early stages for similar longevity!

Cheers

J

I'll answer some of your questions.

The first "recommended" oil change after 500 km is a practice that dates back more than 20 years.
Now, you only have to look at the MG3's digital logbook to see that this is not mentioned. I'd even go so far as to say that I wouldn't recommend it in order to preserve MG's 7-year warranty.

Any personal initiative that is not foreseen by MG could prevent their warranty from working, which would be a pity
