New thing happened to me today (unnecessary emergency braking)

Not only am I new to Electric Vehicles I'm also new to cars fitted with Drivers assist.
So this is not an EV thing, but I'm now an EV owner so I can mention it here ??

I was driving along a route that I semi regularly use but first time in this car.
As I came up a hill, a road joins from the left and cars merge with the intention to turn right about 40mtrs further on.
It's a fast road, 60 mph and cars join and cross almost immediately.
Today a car pulled in front of me but then immediately moved over to the right to turn right, nothing the driver did impeded my journey because the driver timed it perfectly with my speed and left me room to pass on his left hand side.

EXCEPT my cars collision alert did not understand the other drivers intent and put my brakes on, HARD.
Never before have I had a car put my brakes on at speed like this.
Took me by surprise, I never knew the car had this function so another thing learned ?.

Like I said, not an EV thing just a car assist thing.

If the car that pulled in was too close to you your car will automatically bake to stop you going in to some one. So any one trying to do a crash for money will find it hard it you do not turn it off.

I think it's potentially less dangerous than lane keep assist.

LKA will actively try to kill you, whereas forward collision I can see it preventing some bad scenarios. As long as someone isn't riding your rear of course...

I only use LKA when as part of combined MG Pilot with ACC on motorways, especially long journeys. I find with that it does not jerk you around but, along with the ACC component, makes the jouneys a lot easier and less tiring.
 
I have been driving since 1963 and with the use of my eyes and brain I have managed to avoid killing anyone so far, but two of the above seem to have lost that ability.

We will come to rely on these add ons and stop driving , may as well take the bus.

If FSD vehicles ever actually arrive eg RoboTaxis I will be using them.

That’s the full lane follow though, not LKA. Although not great, it’s just a bit naff rather than actively dangerous.
 
The consumer company 'which' have written an article (by Dino Buratti) on the LKA (lane keep assist) being dangerous on the MG4 !
In the article they say that MG told them 'that it's working on a continuous improvement programme with the supplier and the relevant regularity authorities'.

They also say in the article that 'MG said that software updates will be delivered shortly and are now going through a necessary, final approval process before being released'.
To me this is interesting as the experience of MGZS owners on here (eg tesla update) seems to be that MG offer the software free (if specifically asked for by the dealer), but not pay the dealer for doing the work. Hence they sometimes come looking to be paid for thier time by customers.

Like many I simply turned off my LKA within 2 weeks of owning the car.
 
You really mean every time you get back in the car though :( :( if the above was possible there would be no thread.
Sorry if ive caused any confusion.
I meant I turned of the LKA on my MGZS 2022 LR trophy in the settings.
On mine, this doesn't reset each time. (Unlike some of the other settings mentioned in this posting which do).

I have been driving for almost fifty years now on almost a regular daily bases.
None of these so called “Driver Aids” were even a thing back in the day.
You relied purely on both your observation and driving skills, mixed in with a large lump of good old common sense and constant awareness of both your speed and the surroundings / conditions TBH.
The day that I finally discover that I am reliant on this electronic features to drive the car on my behalf, is the day I seriously thinking about hanging up my keys.
When we collected our first ZS EV all of the safety features were enabled.
We soon discovered this when one day while driving through a 30 Mph country village ( at a speed of 28 Mph ) a “White Van Man” suddenly raced up to the stop line of a T junction on the left side of the main road.
He slammed on his brakes at the very last second, but crossed the white line at the junction.
I spotted him and quickly and had my foot ? ready on the brake pedal.
The car did spot the danger seconds later, but it was delayed and the risk had passed.
However, the system thought better and slammed on our brakes violently anyway.
Had the car travelling behind us been travelling any closer, we would have been hit hard in the rear.
And they call these safety features ?.
Of course, that was the day that I disabled them all.
When we collected our new ZS EV ( facelift version ) I disabled them before even leaving the dealership.
I do sometimes worry that drivers can become a little too trusting of these driving aids myself, but then again I am “Old School” I guess ?.
I was recently watching one of EVM’s videos on the new Renault Scenic EV.
It was interesting to see that Renault have included a single toggle switch ( button ) that when pressed, disables ALL of the annoying safely features on the car !.
One flick and they are gone.
No messing about in a touch screen, just a simple switch / button.
Somebody had been listening to the feedback of its customer at least ?.
