I’ll be soon looking at some new tyres for my XPOWER and wanted to ask what would be the best choice?

So far I’ve narrowed it down to:

1). Hankook iON Evo (£160 each)

2). Bridgestone Turanza 6 (£135 each)

3). Michelin Primacy 4+ (£168 each)

Would anyone recommend these or another?

Can't go wrong with a Michelin in my opinion. Wouldn't you want something a bit more performance orientated considering it is for an Xpower though? Like a Michelin Pilot Sport for instance?

I only ever sold tyres in Australia, and in a part where we don't need anything but summer tyres, so I don't have strong opinions on all-season tyres, but the Michelin Cross Country Climate 2 seems to get good reviews from other users on this forum.

Personally not a fan of Bridgestones, the Turanza that is OE fitment here lost traction in a drizzle and I don't even have the power of your Xpower. They also wear excessively for my style of driving.

No user experience with Hankook but not a bad tyre brand, they know what they're doing and fit in the group of Falken, Toyo, and Kumho in my opinion. (Near) premium quality for a good price. But for 8 GPB more I'd be buying Michelin all day.

The pilot spot all season if available seems a really good contender especially if you want to have fun in winter too.

I’ve just had Michelin Cross Climates fitted on my SE, and whilst early days, the difference from the old tyres is simply night and day. Would definitely recommend them

Yes I’d be looking for something for the power, but can’t find any other recommendations?
Basically the more “sporty” tyres are made with a softer compound. This grips more, however the trade off is that they’ll wear a bit faster. I always prefer a softer tyre over longevity.

For your xpower I would look at Michelin Pilot Sport (super sport is even more performance if you want to do track days, but they go a little too far that way for daily drivers I think). Pirelli does a good sports tyre, look at P Zero. Bridgestone RE003 is a popular choice too, but personally I don’t bother with Bridgestone. But objectively it is a performance tyre.

Some other brands are Falken FK510, I have these on my Peugeot RCZ and they grip for days. They used to be cheaper than Michelin but I think that’s no longer the case. And Yokohama Advan is a performance tyre.

Kumho does a performance tyre but I find they lean a bit more on the longevity and less on grip.

Toyo is good brand too, but their performance tyres lean a bit more towards track days (like the Michelin Super Sport).

Continental does a lot of standard fitment tyres for many sports cars, but sometimes they come out a bit expensive compared to the competition.

These are all summer tyres though, I know nothing about all seasons and how much performance they offer. It might be worth your time to pop in to your local tyre shop, just mention want you expect from your tyres. You can ask to see them if they have them in stock (often we had the pattern in stock even if it wasn’t the right size for the actual car).

Little fun fact, softer compound tyres actually feel a little softer. Most tread patterns are all pretty similar nowadays because they all get designed by computers, a lot of tyre companies talk about their tread patterns on their websites and what does what.

Thank You!

If it was yourself buying them - which ones would you choose out of those?

I would personally just want the absolute best for grip - I don’t mind about longevity.

Michelin Pilot Sport for sure! If I was doing track days with it I would get a price for the Super Sport, and then probably get the Pilot Sport anyway haha

Also discussed here :-

A couple of Xpower owners have switched to Michelin Pilot Sport 5 and are very happy with them in all respects (handling, grip, traction, noise all improved) 👍
