MG4 SE LR
A quick look on the new cars for sale in France reveals that there are only around 500 new pure electric MGs of any flavour available in France. Mainly 4 trophy's , a few X powers , no 77 kWh and no SE LRs. A few ZSs and 1 MG5. Not many Marvels, and no Cybersters.
Maybe it's because of the tariffs and they are not importing electrics or they are trying to clear the decks of stock ( not many discounts advertised ) for newer versions to arrive. The dealerships have been left high and dry and many may decide its not worth it. ( Some have. ) The associated garages may continue to service existing owners but without an official MG concessionaire will not ( and I'm guessing ) be able to provide updates or honour the guarantees (warranty), as they will be then independents. Which would mean as an individual going through MG France a clone of MG UK. A little more than slightly worrying . A trend I think that has already been seen elsewhere. Because of a lack of independent start up , electric only specialists , well , at least within 300 km of here , it seems that the future could be a bit more uncertain than originally perceived. I hope I'm reading more into this than would be the actual outcome. :(

A full support service can still be offered in the UK if the car sales franchise is removed so I'd imagine it would be the same elsewhere.

True, but the distance between surviving franchises is greater here than the UK, which in turn may provide additional problems should the pre-planned works do not go to schedule. I had a quick look at Trustpilot reviews on both UK and France MG dealers. ( not recommended bedtime viewing ) and there are similarities evident in both camps, both good and bad. Like this forum, useful for finding a recommended franchise, should you not like the one nearest to you.

Good dealers in Ireland (Eurozone :) )

Take a ferry holiday Roscoff to Cork.
Possible but only if in the very unlikely prospect of there being a bar serving Guinness, near to the chosen dealer.!!! 😵‍💫
I have thought that, would a UK dealer service validate a Eurozone MG warranty, is there one MG computer system which is accessible to all MG franchises or are they strictly geographically separate. ?

My impression is that they are totally separate companies, so they would not honour warranty service from another company.

Then again, SAIC pay for their time and parts when it's a warranty repair, so maybe they would.

It perhaps gets a little tricky with the differences in features from one country to the next. For example, a UK service centre might have no experience diagnosing or replacing a heat pump.

I’m in Paris with an MG, while I see a few MG these days, I’m surprised we don’t see more. They’re so much cheaper than equivalent euro models. Great entry EV. The MG4 SE LR is awesome (as long as you don’t care too much about cold legs 😂)! We are in between 2 dealers at Republique and Montrouge. The one at Montrouge (where we go for service) also sells Nissan and Renault… so I don’t think they will go under. The network of charging is great too, sometimes you can find superchargers (with a 22kW plug) that charge 0.066€ per kWh!!! So we save more than 60% not using fuel. Also electric cars don’t pay parking fees in Paris 💰

Murphys!

I can see why MG will struggle in France in particular.

Aren't the government heavily subsidising the purchase of French/EU small EVs, while putting tariffs on Chinese cars?

That shifts the calculation for consumers greatly.

Even if they shut down their dealer network, though, I am hopeful that as EVs proliferate more specialist EV garages will open, as they are in the UK and Norway.

And a lot of work can be done by a non-EV specialist garage, given that a lot of the car is generic (e.g. tyre shops, body shops).

Other lubricants are available 😵‍💫

Comparing MG UK and MG France websites and it appears that whilst still available in the UK , the SE LR and Extended range versions have been dropped from the French line up. Possibly because of Tariffs , who knows? The SE Standard now has the active front shutters but everything else remains pretty much the same. :cautious:

Yes, but under the Motor Vehicle Block Exemption Order motorists can get their vehicles serviced wherever they choose - but the caveat is that it has to be done to manufacturer's correct specification (including types of lubricants) IIRC to keep warranty valid ;) ;) 🍺
