One of my NMC battery car jump starters (and many of my other battery powered home items e.g. hoover ) has bricked, got me to wondering if we should be charging them to 80% (especially the likes of car jump starter, hoover and mobile phones) which if charged to max may sit a 100% for some time. Anyone else having thoughts on this?

At a relatively recent update my phone suddenly acquired the ability to have its maximum charge limited. I think it's becoming more common.

In fact the original feature just allowed me to limit charging to 85%, but then in June this changed to a range of options including simply limiting to 80%, and having the phone hold itself at 80% until just before its owner usually starts to use it, then adding the last 20% at the last minute.

Not charging your phone regularly to 100% has always been the advice

Yes

The 85% option has always been sufficient for my needs, but this new option seems to be the perfect solution for heavier users.

I can't think of any way this kind of solution could practically be applied to most other home gadgets unfortunately, as it's not predictable as to when you're going to use them ?.

A computer I had about ten years ago went through expensive batteries like there was no tomorrow, but the one I have now has only had one replacement and that seems to be holding up very well. It stays at 100% nearly all the time because I've never seen any option to limit the charge.

My laptop (Asus) has an option to limit the charge to 80% or even 60%. (It's not a standard Windows power plan - it's a new plan that Asus add to Windows). I use the 80% limit as my laptop is plugged in most of the time, but that SOC gives me enough off-mains coverage when needed.

PS - this thread would be better in General Chat as it's not about the MG4.

I downloaded "Battery Alarm and Analytics" from the Microsoft store. Gives you an alert between 25% and whatever you want to set.
