No Fast charge from my 10 year old installation charge point

My ZS EV will not fast charge using my now quite old charge point at 7kW. It works fine with my Nissan Leaf which is is fitted with a 6.6 kW charger but not when I use it with my ZS EV. I am using a Mennekes Type 1 to Type 2 adaptor. Anyone know why?

The cables you use will generally have a rating of 16 amps or 32 amps. If your cable going to the MG is rated at 16 amps you will see a lower charge rate than the cable for the leaf id that was rated at 32 amps (just an example and it may no be the case).

The cables have a resistor installed that tells the wallbox what it's rating is.

What charge rates do you see?

My Leaf will fast charge at 6.6 kW which I assume means the wall box has a 32 amp cable. When I plug in my MG it takes 25 hours to charge fully which is a slow charge. When I had the charge point installed 10 years ago I paid a fee to have it upgraded to provide a 7kW charge as it was free to have one installed at the time or you could pay a fee of £100 for the upgrade. My MG shows that it is slow charging when I plug it in.

Take it that the Leaf uses the type 1?. The type 1 to type 2 adapter may only be 16amp

I did suspect that but when I plugged into my daughter's charge point with her cable which she uses to charge her Tesla I had the same result.

What version of ZS do you have

Mk1 or Mk2

When you plug the ZS in, have a look at the battery screen on the infotainment unit. It will display the charging current. Post a picture if you can.

have you tried any fast chargers elsewhere to see what happens without using your cables? maybe try one more and if that doesn't work, probably needs looking at by MG garage ...

Charges Ok at the MG Garage but not at home.

try one or two more places to charge but it seems it's something at your end if it charged OK at theirs .. did they use your cable or their own?
