This glitch has happened twice now last week, and I wondered if anyone else had experienced it?

I get in, sit down and the car activates itself.

I get a 'turn steering wheel' instruction in the driver's dash.

I can't even move the steering wheel - it's dead centre and unmoveable.

I then can't select D or R - from P it just defaults to N every time.

I put the vehicle back into P - get out - lock the car - repeat the usual procedure and it's like it never happened. Powers up, and gear selection behaves normally.

Software glitch?? Doesn't feel mechanical......

Nowhere above did I see "pressed brake pedal". It "activates" when it detects a weight on the seat, but won't go to ready (where it can go to drive "gear") until you press the brake pedal. When "activated" (like "accessories on old cars with a mechanical key), it will only go to N or stay in P, just as you are describing.

I absolutely did press the brake pedal!!!😎
Just forgot to mention it in my post!!!
If I didn't know about the brake pedal, I'd still be outside my dealership since last February!!!!😁😁

But thank you for checking and Seaons' Greetings!

It's been OK since Feb.
Just happened twice over the past week or so.
Locking the car, and 'starting again' clears whatever fault it is.

1st service will be around Feb time. How long is the warranty on the car?? I know there's 7 or 8 yrs on the battery.....

When I bought mine it had a 7 year warranty. However there are time limits on certain things (see the warranty doc), but anything not specifically mentioned in the doc is covered for the full 7 years. (Subject to servicing, terms etc.)

I've had this glitch a few time over 14 months. I can't remember what I did to overcome it as it's a while since the last one !! I just tried a few things if I remember, put it back in P, unclicked and clicked my seatbelt, moved the steering wheel left and right, opened and shut the door, pressed the brake pedal a few times. Anyways it resolved itself no problem and very rarely occurs so no big issue for me.

As an aside, some of the problems that are cleared by getting out and locking the car can also be cleared by pulling the drop down and powering off, then pressing the brake to power on. I can't remember if you also need to take your weight off the seat when you power down.

I get it too. Took it in to the dealer and told don't expect it to wake up quickly. Don't touch the RND selector until the car reports it's ready. Similarly, if the car doesn't show 'ready' but strange warnings then switch off, give it a couple of seconds then try again. It's teaching me the art of patience.

Similar experience on MG5; took me out of D or R. Initially thought it was seat belt not engaged, but nope finally established the driver's door not fully closed! N.B. took me a few months to twig it!

Make sure that all the doors are properly closed otherwise it will not drive.

This usually occurs when you put it into drive or reverse before the car is fully booted up.
