Hi,

I have just placed an initial order for the Ohme Home Pro from Octopus and am now having a nagging doubt... My consumer unit and meter are in a cupboard in my hall and I reckon they will need to take the cable out the cupboard then through either the utility room or boiler cupboard to get to an external wall. Will this be an ugly mess of thick cable that my wife will be annoyed at? Should I have got a local electrician to do a neater job under floors? Has anyone experienced an Octopus wallbox install from consumer unit?

Thanks,
HazardLights

Do you have an external meter box? Octopus often connect directly into the meter tails with Henley Blocks. Like this:

Hi John,

It's an internal meter box in the hall that connects my downstairs rooms and they will need to exit the cupboard, cross 1 or 2 metres of hall and pass through boiler cupboard in one direction or utility room in another for another one or two metres before before exiting the house and running a short run to the optimal position on the wall.

It's all about understanding the likely visual impact of internal cabling. If it's hideous perhaps I should have contacted a local electrician.

Thank you for the picture. It was good to see the effect. I said yes to the isolator too but have no idea if that is the right thing to do. I think I am probably worrying about nothing and it will all be okay. I've just sent the photographs of the meter and parking location and I am sure they know what they are doing. It's just me that doesn't.

It will need to be a decent sized cable, probably with an outside diameter of about 15mm. It may be wise to run a small trunking or conduit across if you can to make the job tidy. I'm sure they will try to do a smart installation.
