OEM Tyre Model?

If your wheels are bigger, then your Speedo will be lower than your actual speed

It won’t accelerate as fast either as effectively the car will be permanently in a slightly higher gear. It should be more efficient though.

So even 10mm causes the car to be slower?

So why not decrease the tyre size and go 225?

Genuine question, would that make it “faster” ?

Probably not in terms of perception but small changes in wheel diameter have a big effect on wheel circumference. Bigger than it might seem because there is multiplication or division going on with Pi as part of any calculation.

So what would be the best if you want to have the wider look?

H&R spacers. 5mm or even 10mm.
255 profile tyre compared to 235 profile tyre, won't really give you a wider stance.
Just more tread width. If you want a wider stance it's either a lower offset wheel, for example yours is ET51 you would go for an ET45 or even ET40, alloy. But you're not changing your wheels, so spacers is the only way.
🙂👍

Oki thank you,

I have to say,

The MPS5 are so sticky,

The car feels heavier / slower for sure 😄✨

I hope I don’t have to buy tyres too soon, but after the dealer guff pushing this and that policies I looked at tyres at Costco and definitely easy to find a quality set under £600. I even looked at the cost of a set of aftermarket 18”s and tyres, in the event of damaging an OEM rim, the alloys insurance is £3-400 for 3-4 years, has limited cover, yet a quality set of aftermarkets with premium rubber is around 1k. Put the 3 good OEMs in the loft, wait around a year or two and used OEM alloys will be all over eBay.
It must be £4-500 to replace an OEM and tyre right now?
Sorry for swaying off topic slightly!
Incidentally. Historically 4x4s have been urged to match tyres in 4s, a few eg X5 have factory paired sets. I’ve had Sierra, Alfa 33 and Trooper 4x4s but never had them long enough to change tyres. Does the XP have the ability to cope with different axle sets? Is the vibration caused by harmonic imbalance from this?

I mean, I’m not entirely sure what you said,

However,

The Vibe / Hum is slightly less with these tyres.

The car is EXTREMELY planted.

I’ve been pushing it hard and it somehow makes the car feel more rigid and more stiff going around corners.

With the previous tyres - I always felt the body push out / flex like it’s trying to pull the weight back in.

So overall,

  • More Grip
  • Better Cornering
  • Reduced Vibration / Hum

Can’t really comment on efficiency yet but will have a better idea when I do a morning commute tomorrow.

Wouldn't worry to much about, efficiency.
It's an X Power. 😉🙂👍

The other 3 improvements, sound great. 👍

Decreasing the tyre size will effectively put it in a lower gear so improve acceleration and reduce efficiency and top speed. Maybe I’ve misunderstood the maths to some degree and it won’t have quite the same impact I thought.

Btw, hope it didn’t come across as me bashing people for changing tyres to a size that is out of spec. I just had a very bad experience with insurance once so I’m really twitchy about it.
