He gave me this in 1985, along with his AlfaSud 1.3.

In 1985, the best quote I could get was in excess of £4000 from the AA (I think).
So my Grandad pulled a few strings with his insurance company and paid the first year's insurance, but sadly the 'sud proved far too expensive for a 20 year old me to insure in 1986.

He was with Norman Frizzell and had been for decades. His relationship was the sort when customer loyalty was recognised, unlike today.

Anyway, I digress...

I am trying to date this map book. There are no dates in it.

But looking at proposed motorways (for example), the M4, I'm wondering if anyone can pinpoint its completion date in that area.

Funnily enough, on this page, the motorway terminates on the 46, but turn the page, and it extends to Chippenham.

The Severn bridge was started in 1961 and Lulsgate airport opened in 1957. So Watson by deduction the map was printed on the 26th Aug 1959 at 3pm. ????????? .
It can be narrowed down a bit. The map shows Lulsgate Airport which opened in May 1957. It also shows Penpergwm railway station (SE of Abergavenny), which closed in June 1958. So presumably the map was drawn (as opposed to printed) in that 12 month period.

The map must be from well before the M4 was built around here since the route built goes to the north of Chippenham rather than south as shown on the map.
