Hey guys
Been having this really annoying issue with my car screen (FICM) and Apple CarPlay for ages now. It keeps randomly disconnecting, the screen freezes up, and sometimes CarPlay just won't connect at all. I've tried different cables but no luck. Took it to the dealer and they said they updated the FICM, but I'm pretty sure they didn't. I had pics of the version before and after and it looks the same. I'm gonna get hold of SIPS soon but any ideas on how to fix this in the meantime? Also, if anyone can hook me up with the update files that'd be great. I think it can be updated via USB or maybe I can get these files directly from SIPS?

I've moved this to General Chat and modified the title to reflect the fact it's not EV related :)

Quite a few folk have had success using a wireless adaptor to connect carplay/android auto. The usb cable connection method seems to be iffy on many cars.

Tried different wireless adapters
Carlinkit, ottocast same issue but it doesn’t happen with android auto. It works fine even with wired and wireless. Pretty sure it’s a problem with the FICM itself

I have some files for AP31
Looks like there's 8" & 10" versions
Other than that I couldn't tell you if I have anything compatible with your car, whether it'll be newer or older than what you have or how to install it

Sure, if you can share the files I’d be really grateful! I know how to install updates and access engineering mode so I should be able to handle it. Just let me know how to get access to the files and I’ll try updating them to see if they work.
Its a 10 inch display

I’ve got wireless CarPlay in my Sprinter RV. I thought it was a good idea to prevent cables dangling across the dash, but on a trip home from Barry the phone went flat before the Severn Bridge! Have to plug the phone in to keep it charged up, so kind of negated the benefit. FL5 lends itself to wired CarPlay nicely. However I’ve a bizarre issue - intermittent - that on Waze it freezes occasionally and requires a full switch off and a good wait to key back in and clear it. It locks the info screen completely so no heater control when it does it. Strange thing is it only seems to do it approaching Abingdon on the A34, and in both directions!! Never done it anywhere else and AFAICT it doesn’t do it in Apple or Google maps….

That's almost certainly a phone issue rather than a car issue.

I'd suggest force stopping Waze, clearing its cache and data, then uninstalling it. Then reinstall so you get a fresh version ... maybe something's got corrupted in your phone's version.

I’ll give that a go right now and see how it goes tonight 👍

I'm looking at an aftermarket wireless charging mat and an adapter for my phone. I think the plan will be to make a cover for the cup holders on the centre console and sit the charging mat on there.
If it's successful I might even try my hand at 3D modelling, make something a bit more posh and try to get my head round the secondhand 3D printer that came my way.

Laying a mat under the top deck of the FL console sounds like a good plan - but nothing replaces my cupholders, used far too much 😊
