I'm experiencing an issue where the car continues to accelerate even after I've released the pedal. To clarify, the pedal itself isn't physically stuck—I can release it quickly. However, if I go over a bump and quickly take my foot off the accelerator, the car still behaves as if I'm pressing the pedal slightly, maintaining acceleration at around 5-10% with no input from me. There's no KERS activation either. This is concerning and feels unsafe.

I have the MG5 EV. But didnt want to create a new topic as its the same issue.

@mozza

I see you have the Facelift 5 and that may also be relevant to the problem. (As the owner of a pre-facelift 5 this is not something I have ever experienced, thankfully.)

This is normal when going over a rough or slippery surface. The car isn't actually accelerating it just gives the impression it is because it's not slowing down as you would expect.
What happens is that when the car is braking using KERS on a front wheel drive car like the ZS or the 5, when one wheel slips the other wheel isn't actually braking due to the differential and it feels like it's going faster.
This doesn't appear to happen on the MG4 because it's rear wheel drive.

The lack of KERS activation might also be related to the state of charge. If you're at 95% charge or above, KERS will automatically disable to minimise battery damage, regardless of your settings.

I normally use KERS 2 or 3, so it always surprises me how little the car slows down when I take my foot off the pedal at a high state of charge.

I'm sure I've had similar a few times, even acceleration when I'm breaking (but breaking hard enough slowed it (not full foot down, but harder than usual)), but each time was very very short a second or two at most so not enough time to gather evidence or even look at the dials as I'm busy driving.

It could well be just a illusion And it's never been frequent enough or repeatable to make myself believe it, so it could well be just mental gremlins rather than mechanical gremlins ?

I’ve had a single experience of what felt like cruise control kicking in after going over some bad road surface at speed at ~40mph really unsettling the car. Tapped the brakes to stop it getting faster. All happened very quickly so I could have been mistaken.

However seeing how easily the car is spooked by parked cars, walls, signs, people walking on the path… I put it down to the car having a brain fart and accelerating instead of braking. Was going downhill at the time.

Most of these experiences seem to occur whilst braking or going downhill, in the wet or on rough or loose surfaces. I have noticed several times that in such circumstances, if the car detects a loss of braking traction, the regen turns off completely for a short period; the effect feels like acceleration if you were attempting to slow down.

Try Kers 3 (with max 80% battery) and repeat. I only suggest as I have the FL 5 yet not experienced it. nb. when I had the (MK1 ZS) I did, but (as others mentioned) had a full battery.

Replicated my experience again today and agree with this. As if all regen gone for a split second and deceleration becomes acceleration. Rather unnerving.

Does anybody know split of regen and physical braking? If you are at 15% regen downhill and this is reduced to 0% as suggested wtf is going on?
