Pre heat

I've just bought a new car and my rainy day fund is little depleted! But my neighbours tell me that there is a £12,000 interest-free loan available to householders in Scotland to do this. Makes it even tastier. Their house is an identical mirror image to mine and I'm tempted just to order what they have.

I had to replace my oil-fired central heating boiler in 2019 (and the oil tank at the beginning of this year) before all the hype about heat pumps got going. If I was doing it again I'd consider a heat pump, but it's done now.

I considered a heat pump but the cost of properly insulating the house and because I have dormer windows, it'd mean removing the plasterboard, radiators etc. to insulate the walls and replacing and insulating the flat roof upto the necessary standard, made it economically unviable.

If the car has already reached the percentage charge you requested, then when the charger switches on again it will not charge any futher.
If precondition option is selected in the ohme app it will as it is providing power to preheat/cool

If forgotten about the precondition option in the app - now it's getting colder I'll be trying it out. More for clearing the windows than the cabin warmth tbh.

There have been threats to get really heavy in Scotland and prohibit the sale of houses from something like next year if they are heated by fossil fuels. I think they've had to row back on this but it's insanely impractical anyway. And there would probably be a revolution.

Tried the pre heat this morning for the first time. Plugged in, finished charging, worked perfectly! A/C, drivers seat and cabin temp change. Couldn't see anything in the app to heat the steering wheel though.
Trophy.
I can't see an option to heat the seats in my app, just turn HVAC on or off. Can you let me know how to do that from the app please?

Turn HVAC on and the word HVAC will appear top-right in the app. Press that and you get to the HVAC page where you can adjust temperature and turn on seat heating.

I had the car on the charger last night and this morning it was at 100%. It was autumnal rather than perishing (9°C) so I didn't bother thinking about pre-heating. I went into the garage and unplugged the granny lead, then drove the car out on to the driveway. I then left it sitting in park while I brought various things out from the house.

This took me much less than ten minutes, and the tailgate was open for most of the time. Nevertheless by the time I got in to begin my drive the car was toasty. It so happened that the heater had been left at max after a journey in frost on Sunday, and this did the job fine. Bonus, I used much less charge than the pre-heating does.

This isn't a perfect solution of course, and certainly not if it's very cold, but it's a help.
Yes it's strange. When I pre heat the cabin via the app on my SE (when it works! Ie when unplugged from the charger, connects to the app, accepts BOTH the heat command and the HVAC temp command, and obeys) it is on for 10 mins, is stroppy if I want longer, and the 10 mins eats 2% of the battery.

When the stars don't allign to preheat via the app, I now lean on the driver's seat which puts it in ready mode, check the temp is above 29C (ie above 24C in the real world) and slam the door. it can't be driven away without the key inside. And it pre heats for say 15 mins, much better, AND only uses 1% or less battery.

Hi everyone I'm a potential SE SR owner and have the ability with my BGSync EV charger (already installed and ready) to schedule the charge so I can (if required, only charge for a specified amount of time eg only during off-peak period) - from what I have read on this post it "sounds" like the pre-heat functionality will work from the ISmart app if the following is true:

  • car's battery is not at 100% - cable plugged in AND currently charging
  • car's battery is not at 100% - cable plugged in and NOT charging
  • car's battery is not at 100% - cable NOT plugged in
  • car's battery is at 100% - cable NOT plugged in (app just uses home wifi)

Will NOT work via the ISmart app if the following is true:
- car's battery is at 100% - cable plugged in

Are the above assumptions correct?

And I assume the above affects both SE and Trophy? Only difference being someone has reported that the Ismart app gives a Trophy owner more ability to control the state of charge (SOC) % of the battery over an SE owner - but if a Trophy is at 100% then the same pre-heat limitations apply that they do in the SE? Surely both models should have the flexible ability to control the desired SOC (although I have noted the balancing requirement - so this might be the reason but it would be nice to have the same ability in the app for SE owners to save going into the EV app un-necessarily when it could all be done via one app). Thank you for any help.

Think it only doesn't work at any state of charge if plugged in not charging. However seen someone post it works on there's so it must of been fixed in one of latest updates.

From my experience, pre heat will work if plugged in and connected to the EVSE.
That is, as long as the EVSE is switched on, the cable plugged in and the signalling between the EVSE and the car’s charger is connected, the car will send a signal to start supplying current to the EVSE.
The EVSE must then be able to answer that request and provide current.
If the EVSE is configured to not provide current outside of the pre-heating window, then the pre heat will fail.

The easiest way to ensure current will be provided upon request is to initiate a charge.
But, for example, a granny charger is always ready to provide current upon request, and will therefore allow pre-heating.

I tested this morning and mine works no problem when plugged in not charging so this issue must have been fixed in one if the updates, bring on the frost ?
