Well here i had to pay a £600 reservation fee.Not sure how it goes in other countries, but in Netherlands, there is no deposit required for the booking at MG. You do however, sign a contract that can be held up legally if the seller wants to do it.
In my case, the dealer did try to 'threaten' me saying that I can't just cancel the car as it has been ordered for me, etc. However, I had signed the contract on the 2nd of January, and a Dutch law allows buyers to cancel the purchase/return goods in the first 14 days. This came in handy, and I was able to get the cancellation done without much fuss.
To be fair, if they will not release me from the contract, i will just wait them out, there is a paragraph in the contract that says i can cancel if the car is 30 days or more delayed, and i get the very distinct feeling that they know they are not going to be able to deliver on time.
Alternatively, if there is still a shortage, i can probably just sell it on, for what i am going to pay...Someone will be able to jump ahead of the queue and snag my MG, i might even be able to get a few extra quid for it, if there is still a shortage.
Worst case, the £600 reservation fee is lost.
Yeah, if they are not going to release me from the contract, i will just wait them out, i asked them if they could atleast tell me if they were ahead or behind with deliveries, regarding if they would be able to deliver at the agreed date.Read your contract with the dealer. With Howards in Taunton, if they fail to deliver within 4 weeks of the predicted delivery then I can give 14 days written notice to cancel. If they fail to deliver in the 14days I get my deposit back. Was looking to find a car in stock so I could cancel, but delivery is now 02mar23, so am waiting.
They were very vague and would say nothing so i feel there is a high likelyhood of them, knowing they are behind on deliveries.
Another option is, if there is still a shortage in August, if they deliver, i can probably sell it on for atleast what i paid for it, some lucky person will be able to jump the line.
I think i am going to write them and ask, what my options are, if i decide i do not want to wait any longer, and just jump on a Model Y.
The Danish contract says the same.Taunton is a long way from Denmark…
If they fail to deliver 30 days after the stated date, i can cancel the contract.
If they are behind and know this, i would imagine they would be interested in me cancelling now, to ease the problem, instead of having me wait, and take delivery together with the person i sold it on to.
Someone would be able to jump the line, while they would have one more potential cancellation from someone fed up with waiting, because "my" car was sold to someone not on the waiting list.
