Hi there, does anyone have issues connecting AirPlay via USB port and cable on an early MG4 trophy long range, whereby, sometimes it connects straight away - other times it takes ages and involves turning the car off locking the doors and starting again - I suspected the phone and have had all the settings checked and that is ok. My phone does not connect wirelessly without having to re-pair every time I get in the car. Any words of wisdom will be most welcome.

Otherwise, very happy with the car after a few initial gremlins and have covered som 38,000 miles without major issues.

When you say your phone doesn't connect wirelessly, are you talking about your Bluetooth connection? And when you are talking about AirPlay are you talking about CarPlay? Because AirPlay is generally about sharing music with say a Homepod, or sharing your screen with another device (like a tv) which works through Bluetooth, not through a cable (hence the Air in AirPlay).

If you are struggling with CarPlay, there are some known issues with using certain cables, and like siteguru mentioned above, waiting for the car system to get up to speed. It will appear on and working, but it takes 30 or so seconds to get ready for everything.

Thank you for your reply. Yes, apologies I mean Apple Carplay. I have tried plugging in before going through the start up process and plugging in after the process has completed and it’s very hit and miss whichever way. However, turns the plug over at the phone end sometimes sorts it. Another thing is that if my wife plugs her phone sometimes it works for her and more often not. This now leads me to suspect the cable given your comments above.

I have given up on Bluetooth

Are you waiting until the Infotainment screen has fully booted up before plugging in your phone?
Thank you also for your reply. Yes I have tried both ways by waiting and plugging in the phone and by plugging the in before the starting process I.e foot on brake, immobilise LKA etc.

Generally the cable connects first time for me. Sometimes I have to unlock the iPhone for it to work but no more than that. I am currently in the process of sending a wireless adaptor back as I have had problems with it.

Why are these cars so damned inconsistent.

I was using an iPhone 11 with the Apple USB cable and noticed after certain iOS updates it would become more unstable. Now on aiPhone 16 pro with an Anker USB A to USB C cable and it has been more stable. The car is running R40 infotainment and has not had any software updates since I got it.

So many variables:
iPhone hardware
iOS version
USB cable
MG software
