I bought my ZS earlier this year with 8,000 miles on it from a dealer in the Midlands, on collection they couldn't find the service book and as. the service manager was on holiday they would forward it on. I had an issue with the tyre pressure snesors on the way home, I was told to contact the local MG dealer and forward the invoice to them as they offer a 1 year warrenty with all used cars.

Booked the ZS into the local dealership, I arrived on the day and went to the service desk, gave them the Reg number and they said there was no details of service history on the car I asked if I had the service book and I told them I was waiting for it to arrive from the supplying dealer. As I couldn't prove any service history I had to pay for the inspection and was told that without the service history MG would not warrantee the vehicle for the remaining four years.

Why would a three-year-old car with less than 8000 miles have no registered service history on the MG database?

You bought it from MG dealer or a local independent one?

Service history should be on MG database if carried out at MG garages. They can refuse warranty if there is no regular annual service as requested - read warranty conditions and you will see that not everything is covered.

Email the dealer you bought the car from and say that you need service history on Monday, failing which, you want to return the car and get your money back as you bought it on their statement that it's covered by warranty and with full service. Call them after the email and say that you emailed them.

If they ignore you by Tuesday, get local Citizens Advice Bureau or local solicitor to advise and request full refund. I think you have 6 months to return the car if something is not right.

I had a similar experience from a dealership in the Midlands, it was totally resolved and I was happy with the outcome but I only got it sorted in my favor because I left a poor review on Google. Publicly review them and maybe you will get a response.

I bought the car a 100 miles away, 2nd hand 18 months old.
I was told it had a full service and was upto date with the software.
The sales person was not interested in me the very instant I signed for it. I had already payed for it by bank transfer the day before (because of the weekend). He could not get me out of the showroom quickly enough and there was a disagreement between him and another salesman about my logbook. The empty folder was in the car and the other salesman said he took it out to show someone else.
He promised to replace it, but he later refused to do so.

Got it home and found it had not had the service or software update.
After the poor review the branch manager phoned me and told me to book it into my local and they would pay.
Turns out it was serviced just not updated on the MG site but I got the software updated and a 25 point health check completed.

I went back and changed my review as a reflection of how they did deal with the problem.

I have had a ZS for about a year now and the dealer (Drive MG Leicester) told me it’s online? They’ve just done the service and it needed a whole new steering rack! (I had a knocking sound going over bumps). Done under warranty but they had my car for a month and they still haven’t had the go ahead from MG but after numerous phone calls they agreed to do it before the go ahead. They told me MG have tightened their warranty rules.

I had a similar issue with service records. My MG ZS EV has been to a main dealer for all of its 4 years of service. I have a written statement that there was no service book supplied with the car from new and the MG data base has the record.
Well unfortunately not because it is not always entered by the dealer.
BTW the database is necessary to maintain the AA breakdown cover which we have used about 20 times.
Sketchy or deceptive behaviour by MG!

Yes, there is no service book supplied but there is one available online to print if you wish. Your dealer should give you a service printout of work carried out, that's enough to prove servicing.
after every service, call MG/AA helpline to check whether dealers updated the cover - if yes, your service is on MG service database.

Having similar problems trying to get the service history for my MG4 which I,ve had from new and serviced recently. The dealer/workshop refuse to print out the service report and say I can find it on the I smart app , which I believe is a blatant lie. The breakdown cover has been extended and I have a basic receipt for some unnecessary work . No diagnostics were done so there is no battery SOH information , which MG could use as an excuse too not honour the warranty should the need arise. I have no idea if the car has been registered on the relevant MG database???? ?

I was told by MG they don’t give a service book anymore.
I bought a new MG3 Hybrid 31/7/24.There is no service book.It is all on a data base with MG.So what ever dealership you go to they go into the data base and can see the history of your car.
There is only a basic booklet just to get you going. To find out anything you have to go into the menu on the screen.

Thanks Fred. I learnt this the hard way. Called AA for a recovery when MG broke down. AA couldn’t come out because DB had not been updated. Had to pay for recovery. Only later did I find out why.
Really MG need to sort them selves out.

I checked my last service record / invoice . Mileage noted as 0.
This is going to be interesting!

I think it's a good concept (and there is option to print hard copy and stamp it) but unfortunately, depending on individual MG authorised garages to get their act together and do their stuff properly... I got into a habit of calling MG/AA a week after each service to check ...

Am afraid this whole “it’s all online” service record is open to abuse or much more likely inefficient service personnel. All it takes is for the Service bod to “forget” to upload the service information or forgetting to press “enter” and there will be no record of your car being serviced.
The number of times I have had a car serviced and items apparently “ticked” as being done but were NOT done, are very many. Simple things like the “Service Warning re-set” and the very next morning the car warning me my service is overdue when it was carried out yesterday at the dealer!
So it is good to hear you can print off something and get them to stamp it.
I don’t trust online portals etc. as they are always “going down” with no information available. You can’t beat a real service book and print out of completed tasks. But that is the way things are going (paperless/digital).

Just had my 2nd service. Not sure what they actually really did as tyres have come back under inflated! They assured me AA & service record has been updated online, but they also stamped my printed out version I left on the front seat. So at least I have some more proof.

Ask them what they actually do to an EV at a service apart from extorting money from you. Its fraud in my view.

My Tesla is 6 years old now had never had a scheduled service. This week it has had self diagnosed replacement of the 12V battery - 24hours response time from the mobile service team.

Why does the ZSEV need service every 10k miles.?

ZS annual service is either low mileage or every 15,000 miles; apart from a general check, pollen filter in year 2, brake fluid in 2 and 4 and coolant in 6 (plus annual coolant strength check) we get AA cover too and it's required for 7 year warranty - no choice ... I agree they should charge a bit less ... ???

Sad to hear your service record issues. My ZS EV from 2020 was just part exchanged at the dealer in Southampton. They knew they had the full service record and didn't even ask for invoices etc. An annual check for potential issues is a mere £70 or so which includes the AA renewal. When the 4 year service was needed and they wanted the car for the day I asked whatever for? They agreed to do it whilst I waited. There isn't much to do until something untoward is spotted. I have to say that Richmond in Southampton and Portsmouth seem to be good. Quite a number of folks on the Social Media stuff seem happy with them.
