Hi having driven my MG3 Trophy for over 1000 miles now and loving it , l sometimes find cars behind close up when l am slowing due to reg braking.
Does anyone know if the brake lights operate when the car is slowing ?

This is about the electric fleet, so not certain about hybrids. I would hope it is the same.

"Depending on the selected regenerative braking mode, the braking lights will light up a soon as you lift the accelerator pedal and the regenerative braking kicks in with a certain braking force."

Experimented at a huge local car park, my son watching the car go by and no, it does not put on the brake lights even in the highest regen setting.

I have read the question of brake lights on other forums and the general consensus is the when the car reaches a certain level of retardation the brake lights will illuminate automatically as a warning to following drivers.

That's also what it says in MG's info on Regenerative Braking as posted by IDC above, so it's weird that it didn't work when @IDC tested it out earlier.

I think that may be because that info relates to the electric, not hybrid range. There is nothing in the MG3 hybrid manual about the light operating. I was using the highest level of regen with the test.

I wanted to make sure, with my MG5, that the brake lights came on in Regen 3 mode. I got my wife to follow me to test it worked. I wonder if you need to be travelling at a certain speed before the lights operate. Just a thought? It might be just EV's?

For what its worth I have asked 'AI' about brake lights during high level eng. braking on our MG3 Hybrid+. Apparently they do not come on - which I find very disturbing knowing how we often get tailgated. Have decided to never go there. Staying with the default seems to work fine for me.

The highest level regen in the MG3 is less than the regen in electric vans I drive at work. They will also come to a halt using regen only, which the MG3 does not do as the regen stops at about 8mph, so the brakes have to be applied. I wonder if that is why it does not show brake lights with regen?

This all sounds about right to me @IDC (y)

Still, I seem to remember reading somewhere that the brake light comes on under brake regen, but I can't find it now. ?‍♂️

If the regeneration effect is strong enough the brake lights should illuminate. Some early MG5s had to have a software update as it wasn't working on them. Could it be a similar situation ie a software cockt up?

Hi i thought the same in regen 3 some cars and lorries were very close. Not so much an issue with the standard setting. Standard it is from now on
