Yes, whenever it brakes hard enough, whether on cruise or not, the brake lights come on. In fact, doesn't the brake pedal actually move when the automatic braking kicks in?

I'm pretty sure mine didn't come on when on KERS 3 and just lifting off the accelerator, where many people said it did, but since my recent service mine now do too.

I think that as well as a brake light switch on the brake pedal there is also a decelerometer and when it detects decelerating above a certain level it will also put the brake lights on.

I overtook a car driving through an estate, he slowed to 12mph for the blips that are speed humps, only getting back to 15mph when in between. 30 Road.

The rage the 70+ yr old showed when i went past was abysmal.
The road was clear and wide enough for a safe pass.

I go 5mph over them as it's my car which I paid for (not on fiance either) and I'm sure the impatient person's life in the car behind me isn't that exciting that he can't get to his destination, what 60 seconds later. If it applies the brakes yes. If it decelerates hard enough yes.

The speed humps are low, 25mph over them and you get a slight up/ down as most cars are wide enough to miss the actual hump.

Yes, it certainly does on mine!

I know because on more than one occasion I have felt the pedal move (effectively "away" from me) as I've moved my foot from the accelerator to the brake so as to be ready to apply additional braking if needed.

You'd be more than welcome to overtake, hopefully in a safe manner, adhering to that stipulated in the highway code.
People often do that where I live. There lives must be very exciting and uber important to get where they need to be, say 60 seconds earlier.

As i stated in my first post, the road conditions/width etc were safe to pass when i had the interaction with the other car.
If its not safe i see no point in overtaking.

As a cyclist and an EV driver, I see that the standard of driving in general is declining and has now reached quite shocking levels. Did everyone forget how to drive and be courteous and aware of danger during the COVID lockdowns? It wouldn't surprise me if RTC stats are up hugely since the last meaningful pre-COVID figures.

I believe that the green stripe on the number plate is counterproductive. Ignorant non-EV owners wrongly believe that it signifies some benefits (in addition to zero VED and no fuel duty on electricity) and that angers them. Having driven EV specific cars (LEAF, i3 and Tesla) without experiencing this, I do on the MG5 (which is a converted ICE after all) which is my first two with green stripe plates.

The brake lights issue I also agree with and find very annoying on badly driven EVs where people are coming right off the accelerator too often.

Thought the green stripe was to inform emergency services in the case of an accident. So they know to tread carefully they are dealing with an EV and not an ICE vehicle

Well we are now being bombarded with high immigration who's standards of driving aren't always up to par with UK standards. No not having a dig at immigrants before someone jumps on me for saying that.

I doubt that the immigrants with which you say we are now being bombarded contribute too much to the problem. Many of the immigrants I expect you have in mind don't have two pennies to rub together. let alone run a car.

The UK has one of the safest Road networks in the world. If you think its bad here it must be postivley barbaric elsewhere.

I was not claiming that UK roads are unsafe, my point is that the relative standard of driving in the UK has declined since prior to the pandemic, in my opinion. The stats once they are available and for a meaningful period of time (i.e. not including lockdowns) will prove one way or the other whether we are in decline.
