Not sure how many signatures you would need for SAIC to even know you exist, In 2023 SAIC sold over 5 million cars of which 1.208 million were overseas (not in China).

The MG4 has been sold in over 80 countries and has received the Car of The Year Award in several of those with the existing software.

In the first quarter of 2023 MG sold 20,679 cars in the UK, 5,200 of these were MG4.

Lets say you get 10% of those UK MG4 owners to complain, that is 520 owners, but that is only 2.5% of the UK customer base (for Q1) and in terms of total overseas car sales .04% of customers. Not even a blip on the SAIC radar.

I absolutely agree maybe nothing will happen, but according to the various press they did listen to their customers and responded with the new model which is vastly different.

And of course if no one say anything to them, for sure, nothing will be done.

But I'm not asking them to rebuild or change a component, only a very minor bit of the code, no biggy really, China writes software for huge multinational companies.

Fair point about the not really significant number of sales in the UK but, surely, the code for the LKA is the same in all countries. Apart from different road conditions, it's hard to imagine there's a specially vicious UK version, or is there something we don't know... we should be told.
Also interesting to see a number of posts on this subject referring to the LKA being positively dangerous - bit ironic for a safety function.

I guess the other irony here is that it is NCAP who are forcing all manufacturers to include this "safety" feature on all cars (including the default to ON every time the car is started) and a lot of manufacturers software is not up to the job.

Maybe NCAP should start reporting/testing where an LKA system is more likely to cause an accident rather than prevent it.

Friend pointed me in the direction of a competitor's user manual, here's an extract:

"It is possible to link your key to a profile. The profile, along with all of its settings, will then be selected automatically every time the car is used with that specific key."

Now, that's the way to do it....

How much is the car that can do that though?

But yes joined up thinking.

Nearly, it was on Auto Mundial this week and has a hidden screen:

It was mentioned but not shown in the video, but it only pops out for certain functions then hides again.

I'm not against screens per see, just not for stuff you may need quickly, a knob or switch is much better as you use muscle memory and don't need to take your eyes off the road for so long.

My son's Kia has lots of buttons and also profiles to save some defaults, except speed warning and LKA can’t be disabled by default but using a button on the steering wheel.

Whenever I jump in his car I do struggle a bit to remember what all the buttons do and I do press the wrong button at times but I do adapt to it within a few minutes.

Do I wish the MG4 had some more physical buttons or shortcuts? Yes. Especially the speed limiter which I use a lot in the MG4 compared to any other car I’ve ever driven.

I wish for that to stay on as a default, or like in my son's case, a long and short press of a button to cycle/toggle between different modes.

Tbh, the shortcuts dropdown menu is very effective and it’s all that would be required.
