Scheduled charging issue

A wallbox will typically give you twice the current delivery of a granny cable. And no need for open windows ?.

My terminology isnt accurate, but as per above this Tesla cable is giving 7.4kw - same as a wallbox.

Think the Tesla cable is £150 to buy. Whether its sensible/safe to charge this way full time is the unanswered question…

You should have had either a type2 to type2 cable or 2.2kW granny EVSE.
The Tesla EVSE you are using does it plug into a 13A socket? If so the it will only be 10A 2.2kW not 7kW

Yes, via an adapter. It does say 32a on it though

Thanks.

Its a Wa Ev charger, so not Octopus Intelligent compliant.

50-60 miles daily. Do you suspect that Octopus Go would still be beneficial then, all things considered? Joining Octopus will also give me £50 account credit too.
I have a WaEV charger (Model 1i) and Octopus Go.
As someone said elsewhere, unless you do a considerable amount of mileage, topping it up each evening using the WaEv 1i and Octopus Go would seem to be a sensible plan. The App that comes with the WaEV allows Smart Charging and should recognise when the lower price is in operation and charge accordingly. The Octopus Go tariff has recently come down and I don't think the rate difference between Octopus Intelligent and Octopus Go is very much if anything.

Thanks mate.

It’s 7.5p vs 9.5p - so it is over 20% cheaper if you choose to look at it that way.

You of course get an additional 2 hours of cheap charging on intelligent too.

Since you are a Wa Ev user, I have a silly question for you. Before bed the other night my mrs set the wallbox app to charge from when it could ‘see’ our overnight rate. Between going to bed and the charge kicking in, she let her phone die ? and the charge did not happen.

Do I assume correctly that the app must be ‘active’ for the charge to commence, and that there is no intelligence held in the wallbox itself. So a dead phone or the wallbox dropping off the wifi means charge does not occur…

I'm not saying that Go is as cheap as Intelligent but even 9.5p is a good deal less than the standard rate.
As for the "dead" phone I'd have thought that should not have happened. After all, App settings don't normally change just because you switch off your phone or put it in airplane mode.
I suggest that you give Ev.Energy a call on 03300431353.

Hi guys.

Has anyone had issues with the scheduled charging on the MG app.

We borrowed a Tesla granny charger from a friend and set the app to charge 12-7 overnight - cheap ev rate.

To our frustration we woke up at 9am and the car was still taking charge. This means it’s been charging for 2 hours at 45p/kwh ?

Any ideas folks?
There is no consensus about the scheduling problems on the MG4, but there are three approaches, each with their own advocates (see at least three other threads):
1. Use the in-car scheduler, with the iSmart app turned off.
2. Use the app for scheduling.
3. Use your home charger for scheduling - PodPoint, Ohme etc - and forget the car option.

I use option 1, and it works fine for me. The important thing is to have the app turned off from before you schedule charging on the car, to after you finish charging. My theory is that if you schedule using the car, then when you use the app for anything, the car interprets this as the app overriding the car's schedule. The car may then set itself to start at 10pm (default) for example, ignoring the original schedule.

I have a PodPoint, and can confirm that Option 3 works with that charger.

If you are using a granny charger, you can't use option 3, so give option 1 a try. Resist any temptation to start up the app!

Option 3 is the only way it will work with octopus intelligent and that obviously needs and ohme (soon hopefully zappi also) for an MG to take advantage of IO.

Interesting! Yes, I have Octopus Unintelligent, as provided by London Power, so I can do either Option 1 or Option 3 :D
