Seat belt warning

I wonder if they car will allow driving without the seatbelt up to the speed where it normally auto locks the doors (I think it’s 10 kph from memory) but once you’ve passed that threshold it will then no longer allow you to drive without the seatbelt, even if you have come to a complete stop first?

Perhaps an alternative to resetting the infotainment could be “hopping” in the seat to make the car think you got out and back in again?

Nope, it just starts to boing at you, but keeps going. Since the boing is quite musical I've ignored it for quite some time while driving in the village 20 mph zone. Eventually it gives up and stops, but you can still carry on driving the car. (I think it gives up sooner than my Golf's bloody annoying beep-beep gave up.)

My car seems quite inconsistent. I can drive off without the seat belt fastened most of the time, no issues. But then under certain circumstances it will refuse to move unless it's fastened.
It won’t let you drive if on a slope without the seatbelt on. Thats the only consistent thing I’ve found.

This is particularly annoying as my garage is on a hill, so I get out, open the garage door, then have to out my belt on to reverse into the garage.

At the moment I'm inclined to think this is a software problem. There might be some faulty logic around carrying out checks before releasing the EPB. I need to see if I can recreate the problem on demand. However, it seems that most people just use the autohold so perhaps I should simply go with the flow.

Mine has caught me out a couple of times with a similar thing, but without the seat belt light.
When sat at the lights with the handbrake on (small square switch not gear selector P), it drops out of D into P after a while, leaving me sat there like a prat not moving when the lights have changed.
I have to put my foot on the brake and reselect D.
There doesn't seem to be any rhyme nor reason for it, sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't do it and it doesn't seem to be time based.

EPB? Electronic Parking Brake?

Or did you mean AEB? Autonomous (or Automatic) Emergency Braking? If yes then yes I do, but I have it set at lowest sensitivity. (And my car is probably as up to date software-wise as any SE SR in the UK).

Electronic parking brake, via the pull up switch. Occasionally pushing the accelerator doesn't release it.

I have used the "hand"brake ... the EPB is the centre push P as far as I'm concerned ... but not often. When I have done so I've never noticed a need to manually release it. 🤷‍♂️

I think I’ve had it happen twice where I get in the car and select reverse, but then the parking brake doesn’t release automatically. It’s a quick flick so no issues, but it does sometimes happen, only on start up though so far. I don’t use auto hold.

FWIW I've just been out in the car so I took the chance to use the handbrake rather than using a firm press for autohold ... the handbrake released when I pressed the Go pedal each time.

It only does it occasionally, maybe 6 or 7 times in the last two months. But it's sufficiently inconvenient that I avoiding using it now, relying on autohold instead.

Mine actually has released itself and gone into "P" mode after a while, on a couple of occasions, leaving me sat there like a dick, fumbling with the gear selector when the lights have changed. 🫢

I appreciate this is slightly of topic, but maybe it'll help somebody.

I've occasionally had issues in multiple cars with electronic parking/hand brakes over the years (not autohold).

Usually pressing the throttle in D will release it automatically, but sometimes it hasn't. What has always worked to release it for me in these situations is firmly pressing the footbrake and then pressing the parking/hand brake button in the opposite direction (i.e. push down rather than pull up). I can't say this will work in the scenario some of your are facing with the phantom seat belt issue as I haven't experienced it*, but maybe it'll work. Worth keeping in mind anyway.

* I use autohold and had software R40 and now R53.

Dabbing the brake pedal will also release the handbrake when in D or R.
I find this easier than pressing the accelerator, when parking close to obstacles, as the car tends to lurch forward (or back in R) if you press too hard, whereas dabbing the brake just lets off the parking brake and the car creeps.

I'll try that if/when this happens again. It will certainly be quicker and safer than unclipping and reclipping the seat belt.
