Seats removal

Hi!

Due to damage on the rear seat (bottom) and passenger seat (bottom as well) covers, they have been both replaced by my dealer (parts covered by MG and I pay the labour).
Unfortunately they have done a very poor job and the covers are not correctly installed. I have check with them and while they acknoledge the poor quality of the work, they don't want to do it again as they think they have already done as best as they could... They offer to refund partially labour cost.

The saddler at my wife work agree to have a look at them and install correctly the covers, but I have to bring him the seats removed...

Does anybody knows how to remove without damage the passenger seat and the bottom of the rear seat?

for rear seat; I thing the bottom seating part just pulls upwards once you remove backrests

front seats, not sure, there might be bolts... watch for any wires to be disconnected before you get the front seat out.

(post some photos of your seats please)

The front seat rails are held down to the body shell, by four bolts on each seat.
You will need a T8 hex internal multi spline socket ( see pictures below ) and a suitable type ratchet wench to remove these bolts.
If you try sliding one of the seats fully forward, then enter from one of the back doors, this should expose the two rear seat bolts inside the seat rail, now you can remove them.
Now carefully slide the seat fully backwards, this should expose the two forward retaining bolts, now you can remove these.
At this point the seat is completely detached from the body shell.
Underneath each seat, will be wiring harnesses, if you carefully allow the front of the seat to slightly tip backwards, you should be able to look under the seat cushion and see the multi connection plugs.
Disconnecting here will allow the seat to be removed from the car.
However - I would strongly suggest you disconnect the 12 volt battery BEFORE attempting to disconnect any of these multi connections.
Otherwise the car could detect a problem and things could go pear shaped very quickly.

Most rear seat bottoms just pull up. Might be worth a try.

I wouldnt accept that response from the dealer.. and I would expect them to cover all of the cost, not just the parts

Careful with those wiring harnesses when removing the seats!

Thinking about it, is it worth all the hassle and the expense? what if something with front seat wiring goes wrong (is there an airbag?) would be easier to just buy some decent seat covers?

Neither I do, but I have no other choice as I plan to sell the car in the coming weeks and don't want to enter in an argument for 100€...

Well, expense is already there, and defintely the rear seat at least is not looking good... Buying a set of new seat cover will be as costly as having the original ones properly installed. Furthermore, as a buyer, I would remove aftermarket seat covers to see original seat condition...
