I purchased it last year, and no intention of selling it for several years so I was wondering whether to save a few quid and take it to my local reliable garage or am I better off taking it to MG - they've quoted £313.

I've got an issue with the fluid pipe to the rear washer having blown

Not covered by warranty?

If you choice to use third party garage, then your MG assistance / AA cover will not get renewed FOC.
This has a cost factor associated to it also.
Also, they will or be able to carry out any work required under warranty that is likely to be FOC at the main agents and they will not have access to the MG computer software to apply any updates.
Point worth considering, before you make your choice ?.

£313 is a complete rip off for what they do, my first year service was £150 and the second year was £220 and I thought that was a bit steep. The first year they just check everything and the second year they change the pollen filter and replace the break fluid.

they quoted for year 4 service and washer pipe replacement or service only?

The best bet might be to negotiate a service package. On a new car i paid £9 a month over 3 years. The 4th year was around £120 so not expensive and yes free AA service included?

I use Cleevely. Std service £189. Don’t worry about AA cover. These guys get my approval. EV specialists and they come to you.

I had a similar problem (with my 2019 MG ZS EV) and it wasn't covered under warranty. The MG garage charged me £32.50 to 'fix' it. Problem was, they didn't fix it but I stupidly didn't check before I left the garage (learned a lesson to never trust garages!). Ended up buying the part on ebay and fixing it myself (which was surprisingly easy). I fixed it in March 2023 and it's still going strong.

Like has been said though, if you don't go through MG for the actual service the warranty will be invalidated. I would definitely go elsewhere for fixing any issues not under warranty though.

Just an additional point- the service record is held on the MG computer system. Independent garages can't log their service work, so "full service history" can't be demonstrated.

Some banks and certain insurance companies DO offer ( so called ) free break down cover, which on the face of it appears fine, however this is normally only the very basic “Roadside Assistance” level.
Which means you have to be away from your home address, then when they attend, if they can not fix it at the side of the road, they will only recover to the nearest garage, not to your closest MG dealership ( unless it is very close ).
“Ralay Cover and Home Start” service is a much more expensive type of cover.
This IS included in the MG Assistance ( via the A.A. ) and therefore this should be considered as part of your thinking process, when choosing between third party or main agents for your service work.
I have been fortunate enough to own a few new cars over my life time and have tended to favour the use the main agent for my service requirements.
But ONLY for the period while the car is still under the warranty.
When it expires ( normally 3 years ) I then switch to an independent agent, which has always proved more cost effective.
I always NEVER use the main agents to MOT my cars ( if required ) even if it is free !.
I personally regard this, together with free health checks, as a good opportunity for main agents to make money by looking for extra revenue ?.
I will prefer to use an MOT station who does NOT offer an repair facilities.

I have pre-existing Boundless/Britannia breakdown cover which I keep because of my other vehicles (Motorhome, motorbike, classic car and wife’s Aygo) so would be covered if I needed it. Cleevely state their servicing is warranty safe and doubtless they supply a written record. Based on their experiences I fully intend to keep my 5 until at least the end of warranty, so piece of mind of careful servicing by real experts outweighs the dealer/e-record benefit. I have seen evidence that Cleevely will assist with any warranty claims by way of helping the owner write up a draft letter to the dealer. They’ll also be more minded to point out issues that need doing (ZS steering cracking ring any bells) as dealers won’t want the work doing???
Having owned Alfas over the years I had a go-to guy for all jobs I couldn’t do, very well priced work, stellar reputation and genuinely cared for my car. I’d rather have that satisfaction than a dealer stamped book…
See my thread on Waylands MG for what perhaps made my mind up!
