Just done the first leg of my first long journey in my new 5 and stopped in Cheltenham to do a top up charge. Waitrose here have a shell recharge so used that and paid contactless. It pre charged me £45 and I charged for about 35 minutes. Do they refund the difference between the 45 and what I actually used? Do all public chargers work this way?‍♂️

It’s debited 45 from the bank?‍♂️
If they didn't pre-charge then people with no money in their account could fill up and drive off. They can't get the electrons back.

But as Copes says, get an Electroverse card and the amount owed just goes on your electricity bill at the end of the month. You also get discounts on some charger brands.

Use a credit card if you have one, it will pre authorise against something you'll never owe, as such.

That, too. Also make it a cash-back card and you'll get a few pence discount.

Just home after 330 mile round trip. Stopped for a 20 minute tip up at an InstaVolt charger on the way back and was so much easier to use than the Shell one. I must have done something wrong with the Shell - when I wanted to finish charging I pressed the stop charge button on the screen and it told me to use my phone to finish?‍♂️. Couldn’t work that out so stopped the charge with the MG app so maybe the charge point didn’t recognise it or something?
