According to the manual proper shut down procedure for the MG ZS EV is foot on brake, engage Park then switch off and the car will apply the handbrake. Does it cause any problems if you are on a level surface and you shut down by putting your foot on the brake and simply switch off the car without first applying Park as the parking brake is applied in this case and on start up the car is not in gear?

Not that I've found, on start it's always been in N and after you press the start/stop button the handbrake comes on normally.

To turn on - I first press the brake, then Start, hold the brake until the car is ready to go, turn it into Drive and go.

On shutdown, I never press P for parking brake; usually press the brake (I park on a slight slope) and then turn off whilst pressing the brake pedal - parking brake is automatically applied. If the car is stationary, you can turn it off without pressing the brake pedal, done it few times but I do have Auto-handbrake enabled so when I stop, it engages.

From some posts here, it's important to make sure the brake is pressed down on startup until the car is Ready.
