Size of British Gas Smart Meter

If anyone has recently had a smart meter (electric) fitted by British Gas, can you do me a favour and measure the size of the meter please

i have a smell meter box and need to know if there is space to upgrade my non smart meter

There are multiple models of smart meter being installed, so any measurement taken will be unreliable.

That is what I was afraid of but if I get enough replies I can at least see which is the largest.

When mine was replaced it was same size as old meter

Mine is a hodge podge. My electricity meter was SMETS1 installed a few years back, that is slightly larger than the old meter. My gas meter was then replaces last year, and they had to install a new gas meter (SMETS 2) which was exactly the same size as the old one, but it wasnt compatible with the comms module (the mobile phone bit that makes the meter smart) that was built into the SMETS1 electricity meter, so they installed a separate SMET2 comms unit, which is about half the size of the electricity meter. (which doesnt work ? ? )

All in all, it had the potential to have the same footprint as what was being replaced, but ended up taking up a much bigger area!

Also, what area of the country are you in, as the type of meter installed can depend more on who runs the local grids rather than your supplier.

I had British Gas out to fit one, but the guy they sent was unable to fit it in the box around my meter and fuse box. I've since spoken to an electrician to see if anything could be moved around and he said a more accommodating engineer would probably have moved something around to fit it in so it sounds like it depends on who you get. They're penalised for doing too few jobs in a day so he probably just wanted to move on to the next job. I'll attach a photo so you can see what space we have. It's mess because of holes drilled for my solar panel/inverter and my zappi and I didn't know they hadn't cleaned up after themselves until I took the photo (I have to stand on a chair)

What would concern me is that silver block above you meter only has one earth cable into it, as far as I can see. So whatever is on the end of that cable might not be earthed. Your gas meter or water pipe, (near your internal stopcock)

I’ve had 3 different electricians working in that area in the last month and they didn’t express any concerns but I’ll ask when they come back to fit my battery, thanks.
