Mrs S has been gadding about while I've been holed up in the hospital.

Heartless bugger.

She even went out to one of our regular scofferies without me.

Anyhow, she had another slam-on scare where His Lordship jammed on the anchors as he thought she was going to crash into some parked cars she was preparing to overtake.

So, here's my thing......

In the same way as indicating when changing lanes doesn't initiate the "Lane Keep" function that pulls you back into the lane, I wonder if a quick "indicate flick" would stop the car panic-braking when pulling out to pass parked cars?

It’s certainly worth trying. I have a ZS but I have never experienced the emergency braking scenario myself, although I have had a warning flash up if I have approached a line of cars quicker than the car thought I should…….

Had one out of the blue the other day. To be fair it was at a very busy junction with lots of cars and pedestrians everywhere, so I have forgiven it for that one.

The only way you would find out is if you indicated and it slammed on, which would tell you its not a feature. Indicating and it not slamming on sadly isn't a reliable way of saying its a working solution.

Was she using ACC at the time? I find that this is the only time the car slows down when passing parked cars. i.e. it doesn't "slam" on the brakes but it does noticeably brake (which can be overcome with a press on the Go pedal).

Just asked and the answer was no. When we have been in the car together, and this has happened, ACC has been engaged, but not this time.

Even if this harsh braking is not ACC related, a hoof on the go pedal should abort the stop pedal?

My FCA is set to medium sensitivity and since then no full on braking. My chicane route to my local supermarket gives me bongs and a Forward Collision warning on the driver's display.

Yes securespark you are correct.By indicating when overtaking or changing lanes there is no panic braking or buzzing.

Of course, the problem here is it's often bad practice to indicate when passing parked cars. Following drivers may assume you're turning off so will tend to dive to the nearside. Congested streets with parked cars is where this system often bites me as I deftly dance with other drivers through the gaps and pinch points with the occasional random emergency stop thrown in by the car for a laugh just to screw with my head.

This has happened to me 3 or 4 times. Going round a parked car the nose of the car is pointing at the opposite carriageway, with the result that if a vehicle is approaching from the opposite direction the AEB will activate violently without warning as it deems the oncoming vehicle as a hazard.
