Speed limit recognition is dodgy

If you plan it right you might get here outside the rainy season, which lasts 364 days.

Not true at all, we've had brilliant weather over there, same in Scotland, but nowadays I don't get out of the van unless it's dry anyway, not fun sitting in a mobility scooter in the rain.

I feel I need to step in on the side of the Speed Limit Recognition, maybe I live in an area where the signs are clearly shown, and not obscured by bushes, or not covered in graffiti, or haven't been turned slightly in the wrong direction, etc. but mine works perfectly. I actively monitored this the other day, and every change between 20, 30, 40, and 60 was instantly recognized, and the dash display changed with almost magical accuracy.
I'm sure there will be occasions in the future when a speed sign will be missed, and I end up cursing, but right now I love it, and think it's a great feature to have on my car. ☺️
I agree that it's a great feature. The only issue that I've had is where it occasionally has alerted me to a 35kph limit, when I'm in a 60kph area. This is bizarre as there are no 35kph limits, only 10, 15, 30, 50, 60, 80, 100 and 120. So it's a mystery as to where it reads 35 from. Having said that, this has only happened on rare occasions. The rest of the time it works and works well. Having said that, I only ever use it as a guide.

Are you taking in the North West or South, both are well worth a trip. North East and South East are also worth a look.

The rough plan (and will get more rougher as time goes by) is to go up through the lake district while it's empty, through Dumfries and Galloway Around the coast up to Stranraer and across to Belfast, and do the bit down to Dublin as we have yet to go there, then go inland as we've not been there much either sadly, and wander down to Cork then ferry to Roscoff and turn left to Belgium, down into Luxembourg and on into Switzerland, then depending on how long that takes we may go down the east coast and back up the west side of Italy, up and past Monaco, Marseille, then up the west coast of France as we haven't been across that far, 5-6k miles, averaging 50 -200 miles per day dependant on the weather all the time of course and it being April, not expecting much.

Now that sounds like a worthwhile trip.

POTUS requires the same, but I don't think that he would be brave enough to tackle that trip. We stayed inland from Forte Dei Marmi 20 years ago, lovely area.

Italy is the one we will drop, we drove over to Spain in April, stopped had a brew then came back, as we suddenly realised neither of us had any Spanish beyond ordering a couple of beers so we bottled it, Italian is the same, cunning linguists we are not.

Detecting speed limit signs is merely an additional safety function.
As with all cars, this function can be improved and should not be a rule to be followed indiscriminately.
Thats fine but from July 24 it is an EU requirement for them to be fitted to new cars.

As it is more expensive to give UK models a different spec, they will be fitted to uk models as well in most cases.

The software, particularly with the ZS is not fit for purpose and has caused my car to autobrake when it picked up on roadworks on a slip road. Going from 70 to 40 under emergency braking is not fun.

It also reacts violently if you are on a clear road and then come across a parked car, I always try to give any obstacles like roadworks a wide berth but you can't always do that, I've had to deliberately get it to react so that my wife can experience it because it is quite frightening when it first does it. I am undecided about what it does, I suppose in the right circumstances it could save you from a serious accident, so I would rather have it

In Australia posted school zones are 40kmph during school hours. Sadly the car system does not know how to tell the time and starts beeping if I happen to go the default speed limit outside of school morning drop off and afternoon pickup.

During the run of this post I've been more attentive to the speed recognition indicator and it's been fairly accurate, apart from school entrances outside of school hours, but I can live with that. However, what I am annoyed with is the indicator froze on 20mph today and because this particular area does have some 20mph roads I found it most annoying, as did drivers tailing me, that the limit didn't move for many miles, even though I'm sure there were some 30 and 40mph unsigned stretches.

From my experience I just tend to ignore what is says. Around me in 30 mph zones it's telling me the speed limit is 50, other times it suggests the speed limit is 90! Then at the other extreme it tells me 20 in a 30...
