This is my first automatic car but I find it weird that you need to press down the brake and push start button to actually get the car in ready mode. I get that you need to keep the brake pressed down when changing gears but why do you also need that to get the car ready being the car already stopped? Seems wrong and unnecessary

For quite a while you need to press the brake in a vast majority of cars, some even in manual form (though there often the clutch, even in neutral). I guess it's mostly a safety thing, that you don't have it by accident jump as it starts in a gear.

As Mick78 has said, it's a safety precaution similar to holding down the clutch pedal in a manual transmission vehicle. Automatics tend to creep forward, so it has always been considered best practice to keep the brake pedal depressed when starting them.

Pretty standard stuff across most automatic cars. My last car, a Renault Clio was like this and previous to this I had a god awful Ford Puma auto which was the same. I also had a horrible little new shape Toyota Yaris with the same starting procedure.
