Stupid careless Bam Bam

Advice needed!

I didn't clock a car parked in an unusual place in a car park without marked spaces and backed into it.

Slow speed. Went inside and found the owner of the Audi who wasn't bothered. The damage seemed minor and all on the MG, which I drove away without any issues.

Got it home though and I see that the inner shielding (?) won't go flush because there are a couple of parts out of position behind there. I can put my hand in and one of the parts moves around a bit but the other one (which is pushing out the shielding) is pretty stuck. I expect one thing is stopping another from moving, but I don't know what order to move them in.

Popped the vertical red light back in place fairly easily, though there is a crack in the bumper around it. Bumper is also cracked in a couple of places and scuffed a bit, but fairly minor.

Does anyone happen to know of any photos online of what is behind in this area? That might help me to work out what I might be able to move to where to get things back roughly where they should be.

I expect I will have to take it in to a garage (either MG or local) to get it investigated and quite probably some parts replaced.

Expect it will be an expensive bit of carelessness. I think that the additional reversing camera which I've been ummming and ahhhing over is looking like a better investment!

Looks like it should be an easy push back? but on closer inspection you see a screw head and a hole further down that needs seated.

If it was mine I would be getting rear up, and having a go from underneath.

Easy for me to say as I have ramps.

Might be worth getting the wheel off and then remove the whole wheel arch liner.

Should be fairly easy and you will see better what is stopping it seating straight back.

And your right, if you do end up going to a garage I reckon you will be shocked at what they will want to relieve you of.

A couple of minor scuffs on my previous Etron would have cost me £434.

I gave the quote to the bloke who promptly paid up before I then rectified the damage myself.

Just tried on ipad, opened without a problem, with up to date software.

Oh no, but at least the damage is fairly minimal. I watched this video the other day, ignore the fact he's installing an automatic tailgate kit. Video shows clearly how to remove and replace the bumper, hopefully this helps.

That's exactly the sort of thing I wanted!

I've downloaded the manual - very useful (but long!)

I found this on page 457, which is I think the damaged part. Rear bumper bracket.

I think the lower 1/3 of this bracket is mangled.


I hope it won't cause any problems to drive with it like this because we are visiting family this weekend - about 40 miles each way.

maybe get a quote first. It might not need a new bumper in your case. It did in my case because the bracket bent the bumper from the inside and it left it dented. Yours seems fine to me. If you don’t mind the small crack on the silver bottom trip.

I put some clear gorilla tape to hold it tucked in so that it wouldn’t catch in the airflow it be pulled out should I go past a bush or something. If it weren’t for the dent in the bumper I could have left if like that I definitely ?

Hmm, hadn't thought of that - we have a brief trip on the motorway tomorrow don't want the thing flapping around!

The bumper looks relatively ok so I wouldn't mind keeping it, aesthetically. I'm worried that part of the inside of it has snapped off and is still connected to the mangled bracket. But would have to get it off to confirm, which I don't have the time or skill to do.
