I know the idea of a seperate space for X Power was floated quite early on but didn't gain any traction at the time.
Now after many hours of "hard" work by @JonnyG and myself, (behind the scenes) we have our own "safe" space ? for all things X Power.
I believe (and you can correct me if I'm wrong) that I was the first owner "OnTheRoad" in the UK, taking delivery on 6th September 2023.
Soo exciting!
My first proper, dedicated, built to be a performance car since my E63 AMG Mercedes Estate in 2014.
Why yes, I have had "fast cars" in the interim,
Vauxhall Monaro VXR500
BMW 335D Touring
Audi RS4 Avant to name just a few.
Also a list as long as your arm in the preceding years which would need a whole seperate post (when I have more time to find the old pictures)
I had genuinely thought that my "performance car" day's were behind me.
What with retirement, caring more about the climate, and absolutely refusing to give the government any more of my bloody money in car tax and fuel tax, I assumed those day's had gone.
I placed an order for an Audi RS3 in 2021 but cancelled it after finding out the road tax for the first few years would be in excess of £1000!
I can't recall the exact figure, but was shocked enough to pull out of the deal.
I've still been stupid enough to hand over a very good portion of Tax to the government on this car though, as I have bought it with my own money.
A bit daft really, but I am quite old school when it comes to that sort of thing.
But hell, someone's got to keep the illegal immigrants in warm dry accommodation.
No Christopher. STOP IT.
Cars only please.
Where was I?
Ah, yes.
The MG4XP.
My genuine, unadulterated joy, in owning this car is...... because its special.
It's a bit different to the "norm"
I get "double takes" all the time.
Even had a chap photograph me as I went by not long ago!?
Years ago, my Escort Cosworth had a similar effect on pedestrians.
I could sometimes read their lips as I was driving by......A..... Cosssseee.....
Yes, I wasn't driving fast enough, and yes they could here me coming and had a chance to turn round!
Anyway I digress.
It feels so good to not buy petrol, not buy road fund licence, which as we all know seems to be spent on anything except the bloody roads, and still have neck snapping, stomach churning acceleration any time I want.
(Providing you have enough electrons on board to satisfy the requirements of going Very Very Quickly)
But this car is just so good at all the other stuff.
Just the business of being a car.
Takes the cat to the vet.
Wife to the Doctors.
Brings home all the shopping.
Me back from the strip club.
Easy to drive.
Easy to park.
Practical in all ways imaginable.
I could go on.
And I will go on....
Drives superb.
Quiet as a mouse.
Relaxing.
Swift.
Easy to use. (Now I know what I'm doing)
Powers my home.
Cheap to run.
I could go on ?
I am very happy with my XP, and can't see my coming out of it for many years to come.
