Maybe Allianz are pulling out of EV insurance. In which case it will mean I will definitely be changing insurers this Sept.
After a further exchange of emails this is the latest answer ;-
"
Thank you for getting in touch.
Yes, I'm afraid that does mean that you will need to locate another insurer to provide your cover this year."
Still no reasons as to why . I've checked my driving licence at the DVLA , Valid, No points or unspent convictions . My health is OK apart from PreDiabetes and being old (75 )
I am still covered ny Allianz so if there was something untoward they would pull my cover ?
I'm really baffled as to what's going on . Maybe best get in touch with Allianz to see if they intend not to insure EVs though I can't see what you are driving ( Not an MG )

Just had a quote of Sainsburys for £916 , which is three times what I paid when I was with them when they dropped out of the Motor Insurance racket last year . Obviously smelled blood in the water :) .
On the bright side , at least I know I can be insured :) .
I guess the search starts in ernest next week ( the 26 day theory )

I’ve just brought a work hack Cmax diesel and that’s coming out @£390 fully with no no claims bonus and 3 points for speeding nearly 3 year ago and I’m a truck driver
Yet my 5 was over £500 last year with no claims bonus ??

They won't pull your cover.
They have just decided the EV market is not for them this year, it probably will be again in 6 months.
All insurers do this, but usually just up the prices phenomenally for the market segment they don't want that year hoping you will go away or they make a fortune on your ridiculous premium.

Probably true but it brings up the issue :- are Insurance companies being influenced by Big Oil to discourage EV take up ?

Oddly enough Allianz have just covered my car for the same premium as Aviva charged me last year.

Edit to this furry rat has come out with £361 fully comp

Maybe you have got in now but the change of attitude at Allianz is scheduled between now and September, hence warning letters going out in advance for those renewing after a certain date.

I doubt it, they are more influenced by profit.
And the underwriters. Apparently, the underwriters have a software program which assess the risk based on all the questions you answer on application. It's that which influences the price the insurers quote.

Sorry about not Being on here for a while, but I really need to rant a bit!

Back story

My Partner bought her ZS back in 2020 when they were offering some serious discounts that couldn’t be ignored, she purchased using PCP which neither of us have ever done, but thinking long term it would be better for her to do this, so she could change cars every 4 years.
we were so impressed with the ZS, that when our life situation changed, i decided to replace my Mercedes E320 estate with a MG5, mainly for the warranty and lack of things to go wrong, plus it was my first ever brand new car!

With insurance for the 5, it was a little more than I used to pay for the Merc but I managed to get to below £400 for the first year.

Cue renewals they wanted £7-800, so onto Martin Lewis site and got it back below £400. ( this was even after 2 claims, one for windscreen and the other for passenger side wipe out!)
my partner was the same but with her car now being 3 years old the renewal’s around £3-400.

Now with only with a few months left on PCP on the ZS, we have taken the decision to start looking for another car for her to get ahead of the supply problems.

We both had a day off yesterday, booked an hours test drive for her to look at the Tesla MY, she thought she wouldn’t like it, but even though it’s a FUGLY car, the driving and passenger experience is in another league compared to the ZS and the 5 ( I’m not dissing MG by the way!)
Anyway she really liked the MY and we start looking at the different models and get pricing for the two that we might go for ( rear wheel drive, short range and the dual motor, long range)

I thought when we got home that I’d look at insurance as I know it’s in the news with the price hike, but OMFG what is going on!!

We are both in our young 50’s, she’s a NHS employe, I’m self employed, live in a nice area, large detached house with double garage, low crime rate, both have protected no claims
MY RWD SR £1400
MY DM LR £1600!!o_O
Sorry but that’s just RIDICULOUS!! so thought I would check for my 5 to see if it’s gone up, but no it’s ONLY £320! Which has gone down since I renewed in June.

how the funk do peeps, driving round in a Tesla justify that! They are crazy, it just beggars belief! They must have some serious debt or getting serious salaries! to write that kind of money off every year!:cautious:o_O

needless to say, we‘ve decided yep very nice but for the moment, that’s nocked it off the list!

next the MG4, hopefully the Volvo XC30, kia ev6 and maybe the Hyundai
anyone suggest anything else? She’s happy with the ZS size of car

one really positive thing from the test drive of the MY, we both noticed (also after sitting in an ‘S’ and a M3) the MG5 has a lot of cabin space and height compared to the 3 and S, also the rear door access to the seats is way better in the 5 than the MY which really surprised me! Good on you MG.(y)
it made me appreciate the 5 a lot more.
sorry for the long post, just wanted to get it off my chest a bit…..?

You might find this tool useful for checking the insurance group for EV's you are interested in. Tesla's are in the range 47 to 50, so amongst the highest possible groupings.

I tried a Model Y RWD and AWD as well as the new Model 3. I had the previous generation Model 3 as a long term loan car and didn't get on with it. Preferred the Model Y RWD to the AWD and they are apparently bringing out a RWD long range too. However, repair costs, insurance and the distinct lack of control buttons (and stalks on the new Model 3) along with a less than comfortable ride quality ruled the Tesla's out for me. In the end I ordered a Renault Scenic to replace our ZS Trophy Long Range. A much better EV all round for our needs than the Tesla, EV6, Ioniq 5 etc.

If they did that, people would be able to see how they were being ripped off. :)

You can do some back of the envelope calculations.

33.2 million cars on UK roads.
Say £500 average cost of premium.
£16.6 billion income.

333,296 accidents in 2022.
Between minor paint jobs to write offs, let's say £10,000 average cost of repair. (Put in you own figure if you like)
£3.3 billion cost to insurers.

Net profit, £13.3 billion.
Bear in mind accidents can involve more than one party and might also payout for medical treatment/compensation. loan cars etc. It's also difficult to look at individual claims/premiums for a year in isolation. I'm not on the side of insurers but they are not making as much profit as we think they are.

Really? ?

Well gets better with my Cmax quote , added my brother and sister in law on and a basic fully comp comes out at £346 ?
He’s 57 and she’s 53

If anyone is interested, here is the Motor Insurance data for the UK.

And who's supplied these statistics? The Motor Insurance Industry, Buy any chance? ?
