Hello again everyone.

Sorry for all the questions.

Going to pick up my car next Wednesday and will be granny charging for a while (possibly indefinitely due to looped supply) and read somewhere that the car switches off if plugged in but no supply..

As I'll be using a timer on the mains supply, is this going to be an issue for me?

Thanks in advance

Andy

If you are on a granny then you will probably not need a timer as it takes a long time to charge. Going via extension leads etc. you must check for heat on sockets etc. and make sure you get a new well made wall socket.

Yep, I think a full charge on granny takes about 15? Hours.
Personally I would be wary of leaving the granny on unnatended unless you are sure of your electrics. As Jomarkh says plugs and cables can overheat especially if they are not heavy enough or are coiled up.

It will work on a timer and this is how I charged my car before I had the Hypervolt fitted.
An element of caution is justified so I'd suggest an initial charge of at least an hour or two during the day so that you can inspect plugs/sockets/cabling for any sign of overheating. If you see nothing of concern after a couple of hours there should be no problem doing it overnight.
As suggested above, a new 13A socket from a reputable supplier would be an inexpensive but worthwhile investment.

24hrs on a granny for 0-100%.
Look for a charger 16a and have a commando socket fitted.
Ohme do commando sockets fitted to their chargers.

That'll bring the charge time down by 60%
