Token Expired every. single. day…

Hi, I’m in New Zealand & have a 2023 MG4 Essence 64. After a recent app update on my iPhone 11, I was seeing this “token expired” message nearly every time I opened the app. After checking the‘Security Settings’, I noticed it is possible to turn on “Face ID”, so I did. I will check the results over the next few days.

The security settings option is just for things like the digital key and HVAC etc. Unfortunately my app continues its nonsense of logging me out almost every day. Sometimes it logs me out in a way that leaves me having to enter all of my details again, username and password. It’s very odd

I’ve had similar issues with different apps when using a VPN, I’ve switched VPN since and it’s less of an issue now, but after a couple of weeks the MG app swaps me back to the ghost car image (instead of a picture of the MG4). It corrects itself when using the app with VPN turned off, which leads me to believe the VPN impacts the app, although at least I haven’t encountered this token issue (yet)
 
I never use a VPN. No idea what’s going on with the app for me. Starting to wonder if it’s because I only used my mobile number to register, not my email, but can’t see why that would/should make any difference
 
The app has generally worked well for me in the 2 years I've had the car, with only occasional loss of connection (Remote control instruction failed message) and Token Expired.

In fact - and this is proof for all those who have got new phones and think they need to bind again - I have just got a new phone. All I did was install the iSmart app, login with my original details (I did use an email originally, and then added my phone number to the account) and I got in straight away; all working fine.

That's correct, all binding does is associate the VIN of the car to the ismart online account (email or phone number). After that there's no need to redo the process unless you're selling the car
 
It's handy for remote defrosting the car (or remote cooling in hot and sunny climes). :)

Even that's debatable. My car's about,
10 ft from my front door. And as I've already said. Walk out to car, everything on, back in, Coffee, back out, car defrosted, and nice and Toasty, drive off.
And at least I know it's done. Not hoping the app has worked. 🙂👍
 
My journey is similar ;) but I know it's worked because a) I get feedback in the app, b) I can see that the car's lights have come on, and c) I can see the windows start to defrost. :)

I’ve just added an email to mine to see if that makes any difference. Wondering if it might as I closed the app and reopened it afterwards and it told me the digital key wasn’t activated, which I was able to sort without issue. I’ll report back over the next few days

It's not just at home, what about at shopping centers, could be nice to come back to a 23°C car instead of 45°C or 0°C?
There's also monitoring charge state, that can be handy to know at times away from the car.

I have only my mobile number for the app. The app works ok with about 5 expired tokens over the last 20 months. I, too, have changed my phone without issue and the Bluetooth seems more reliable.

I had a few problems with the app that required a reboot of my phone to sort out. I blame the latest major iOS release as this has stopped since installing the latest patch to the OS

If you can see the car through a window you never have to guess the app has worked as it will light up like a Christmas tree when it turns on the HVAC.

I have found the app useful for tracking the car, when it was off for a service and the pre conditioning, warms all the door seals up before you try to open the doors.

Only real pain with the app is when the car goes to sleep after 24 hours so you get no response or if the SAIC servers stop relaying messages.

If not using the app works for you then no reason to change, we all use the features of the car in a way that suits us.

I’ve tried literally everything. Up to date IOS, reboots, deleting and reinstalling the app, you name it, nothing worked. I’ll know soon enough if adding the email changed anything

Have you tried logging in, then delete cached data, log out before it says token expired, then reboot phone, then log in again?
 
Phones sometimes do weird things ... Mrs Guru complained to me last night that her phone camera wasn't working; a reboot of the phone cured it. (She rarely reboots her phone as she leaves it on at night to use as an alarm clock - the Motorola phones don't have any "Off but turn on for alarm" option).
