Hi folks,

With some luck, our MG ZS EV Trophy LR is due for collection this week. We are looking into having a company pick it up for us as we are unable to travel to the dealer, and they don’t have capacity to deliver at the moment.

With this in mind, anything I need to look out for in terms of a company getting it onto their trailer? Am I right in saying the MG can’t be towed and must be winched?

Would appreciate any first hand experiences and recommendations with this :)

You ideally want it on a flat bed trailer.
It can be driven on so no winching required.

Exactly, it'll be driven onto a car transporter to get from the docks to the dealer, it can do the same from the dealer to you.
Where's it going from/to?

Gotcha, that makes sense. Sounds like I just need to specify to the delivery company that they should drive it onto the trailer and not try to tow or winch it on. Car is being delivered from Yorkshire to Lincolnshire, so not too far, about 80 miles :)

As already said, they will drive it onto the trailer.
It is just easier !.
Towing and winching are two completely different things.
Winching the car 12 feet onto a trailer would be fine, but towing the car any distance is different thing altogether and completely not recommend !.

An EV can be towed at a maximum of 3 miles/hour in neutral with no ill effects to the BMS. I have heard that if you switch the car on and leave it in neutral, as it is towed the BMS treats it as regen braking and charges the battery. Can anyone confirm this?

It won't regen in neutral, it may in D.

If the dealer doesn't have the capacity to deliver, surely they know a local company that will do it ?

The car needs to be on to keep the handbrake off. It doesn't regen in Neutral but a reverse EMF is generated that if you go to fast could theoretically damage the motor and control gear. At winching speed it'll be fine.
