We're having a great time, but bit of drama on the plane over, a disruptive passenger assaulted one of the crew, so we had to divert to Melbourne so the Feds could off load him.
We landed at Auckland and caught the train to Christchurch via National Park.
Hired a Ford Escape hybrid, not sure of the year, but it's done 25k km.
I don't like the steering, hard to describe exactly, closest I can get is "sticky", certainly a bit heavy, but I could handle that, if it wasn't for the initial inertia.
Doesn't seem to have LKA, there is a display where the lanes turn red if you get too close, there's no correction on the steering, but a lot of the time there is a low rumble on the steering wheel when you get close. I can't make up my mind if this is the road surface or the car.

Seed detect is good, on a 100km freeway, the display stayed on 100km/h when we passed very close to a 50km/h exit ramp sign. The MG would have changed to 50 for sure.

On a 100km run speed varying between 60 and 100 it was reporting 4.8 l/100km

Bit of disappointment with the acceleration, would have had plenty of room to pass with the MG but I scared the oncoming car into veering to the edge of the road as far as he could go. Wasn't a nice experience all round, but there was enough room to just manage it safely.

Going on the mail boat to the remote Islands tomorrow, hopefully come back with some pics.

Another observation after today's drive from Christchurch to Havelock, NZ roads don't have many passing opportunities, and there are slow vehicles on the road. Not many straight stretches or passing lanes, lovely scenery, so if not in a hurry, that's OK.

Still haven't been close enough to verify an MG sitting but there are plenty of Teslas, and we've seen quite a few charge points in our travels, mainly 50kW versions.

The mail boat run was a great experience.
Interesting people like to be fairly isolated.
Nice sunny day, and the sound was calm. the crew was very knowledgeable and friendly.
here's our route

This is how the place looked before it was cleared.

This is where we stopped for lunch, a big, hilly off grid farm. No money in sheep no, but the 5th generation is keeping the tradition alive.

Archev, if you visit your niece, I highly recommend this trip, but try and do it in good weather!!

NZ MG owner here. Plenty of MG4 in the North Island, mainly in the big cities. Plenty of high power chargers, especially along the main State Highway 1 (SH1). However, in more rural areas and in the South Island they (chargers >100kW) are few and far between.

Enjoy your trip.
