MG4 Trophy LR
Hi all,
I've just picked up my MG4 Trophy LR 64kwh. I would appreciate guidance on fast charging.
1) the Zappi charger at my workplace gives on option for fast charger, yet the car shows "slow charging" with only upto 6.4kwh. can the trophy charge faster than 6.4kwh on AC. I know on DC it can do a rapid charge but why is it not charging faster on the Zappi? Any ideas? Thanks

Sorry, I forgot to add, the Zappi is a 22kwh fast charger. My colleague has a Nissan Ariya and his EV charges at the fast rate. 3 hours for full charge (330 miles). My trophy takes almost 10 hours for a full charge (230 miles). I don't understand why? Thanks for any guidance.

Phase 2 Trophys don't have the capability to charge any faster than about 6.5 kW. The capability to charge faster was one of the things that was changed in the 2023 refresh. Even the phase 1 models didn't do anything like 22 kW as far as I know.

Hopefully someone with a Trophy will come along and explain the details.

I believe it was 11 kW. (16Amp 3 phase), with the later LR models 32Amp single phase, the same as SR models.

The specs section on the Website says 10% to 100% for an LR should take 8.5 hours @25°C with a 7kW charger.

11kW agree, with losses around ten going into car. Did a Zappi charge last night, <10%-100% took your 8.5 hours roughly but temps were about 13°C to 5°C.?

The onboard charger in the single phase cars is rated to 6.6kW (not 7kW), hence why you'll typically see a max. of 6.5kW going into the car (when you look at the iSmart app). The early 3-phase cars were rated to 11kW 3-phase, and 7kW from a single phase supply.

Yes, mine normally charges at 6.4 kW on single phase AC, or at least it did for the first couple of months. Interestingly, now that it is a little warmer here (mid to high 20s), the charge rate drops to around 2.9 kW.

Physical way to tell is look at the charging port on the car, and the bottom corner pins will be empty if single phase (~7kw) or have pins in three phase (~11kw)

I agree with #10MG4 is single phase 7kw in China, seems to be the same in Europe, in some countries it is 3 phase 11kw

Performance
Estimated Charging Time (7kW Fast Charger) 10 to 100%

Australia is single phase 7kW for a Trophy. Only the 77 kWh battery still does 3 phase / 11 kW

But also official specs of EU "trophy" (Luxury64, for us Trophy is the 77kwh one), are quite different to the UK ones:
WLTP 450KM vs 435, 0-100 km/h 7.1 vs 7.9.
We got 11kwh AC charge and heatpump included.

I don't get why specs deviate so wildly...

I’ve found that with many cars we don’t get a lot of choice in Australia, you hardly ever see an option list like you do in Europe (at least when I still lived there). Here you sort of pick a version, if they have any, and a colour.

Well we got 6 version:
-standard49
-standard64
-luxury49 (LFP pack)
-luxury64
-trophy77
-xpower

You have to pick betwen those, you can't customize in MG's case. And is a good thing I think. I love having all the toys.

Heatpump included on any spec, standard aside.

Free color is orange, you can pay 750 euros for white, silver, grey, black, red.
Yes no smurf blue allowed.

Feels weird to me having the same brand and model on offer so different on a country base.

Feels even weirder that we (in Italy) we have a better offer then you in UK, given we have a very bad EV sell-rate, due to government spreading misinformation through TV and journals because of the huge petrol lobbies.

People keep asking me why I have gone full electric, is "too risky". In 2024...

As chatted about, when asked in another thread about the 3 Cara in my drive, my relative's Megane charges at 22 kw AC (pretty much shares everything with the Ariya mentioned above). The 22 kw is a huge bonus and I don't understand why more manufacturers don't have it. In Scotland there are loads of public 22 kw AC chargers. It means you can park up go for lunch dinner and get a near full charge in that time, it's cheaper and without the time limits of DC chargers.
My Born has 11 kw AC which is decent and the wife has the newer MG4 which is 7kw.
