Trophy vs GT

Hello everyone,

I'm planning to order a Cyberster next 2 hours (unfortunately register process was quite long), but I'm still undecided about whether to get an AWD or RWD. I've driven both, unfortunately the AWD in very bad weather. It seemed very aggressive/unsteady to me in Sport/Super Sport mode. I also think the RWD rims would look better.

I'm currently driving a Jaguar F-Type P340 V6 with about 380 hp, and I've actively decided against AWD and V8.

Unfortunately, the AWD is only €4,000 more expensive, so I'm not sure which one to go for. Is the longer range in Comfort mode really realistic?

Any hints?

Thanks and best regards from Bavaria

If your really undecided. There's only one choice in my mind. It's gotta be the GT.
You'll almost certainly regret getting the lesser one. Why would you put it in Super/Supersport mode in very bad weather anyway? As for the rims, change them, they ain't the best anyway. A lovely set of alloys on the GT would look gorgeous. 🙂👍

The Trophy is plenty fast though, right? And it's also RWD, which for a sports car is generally the tradition.

I get that the GT is stupid fast, but is that something you ever use once the novelty wears off?

And there's the reduced range to consider as well.

Fair enough. It's your choice. Can't argue with that. The Trophy is not exactly a Snail. Have to say though, stupid fast, doesn't ever get boring. I've got an X Power. So I can vouch for that. And less range, wasn't an issue for me. But might be for you? It's up to you. 🙂👍

Just keep in mind that you can drive the GT as a RWD (with only the back engine), so it is the best of the too worlds. The only relevent point is the range...

Go for option #two.

Hello Winni,
I was also faced with this decision and decided in favour of the Trophy. When do you really ‘need’ that huge torque from the GT? And should I be lugging around the extra weight of the second engine all the time when I'm not using it?
That's why I decided in favour of the Trophy with conviction and am now waiting for delivery.

To give the counter argument we went with the GT as you have the power and the FWD for slippery surfaces. We mainly use in comfort mode on motorways so similar range as the trophy.

Either is a great choice enjoy when you get it

I went through this question last year, and decided on the trophy. I had a Tesla with ludicrous/insane mode, and after a while the extra power became a novelty that I rarely used, so I swapped it for a longer range model.

I haven’t driven the GT so I can’t directly comment on the differences.

I have been driving the Trophy for last 6 months and don’t regret that decision at all. Never felt short of power, and the extra range is appreciated

I like the rear wheel feel of the Trophy, and yes it can get a bit wiggly at the rear in certain conditions. Once you get used to it, I have found it quite fun, and always easy to control and feel safe. I am no skilled racing driver, just your average driver, so if it makes someone like me feel like they are safe and under control I think that is credit to the car.

Thanks a lot for all your statements. I have signed a contract for a Trophy. Unfortunately I have to wait until end of October, therefore I will start driving next year.
The Trophy has a limiter at around 121 mph or so. Autobahn be damned. Great choice. The trophy is lighter but around 290kg heavier than than the V8 F Type. The GT beats the facelift AWD V8 F Type (575) in a quarter mile by 0.1 seconds. The V8 F type comes into its own post 100 mph all the way to 186 mph. Trophy would be around 300kg heavier than F Type V6 assuming the V6 is 1550kg. Id say the facelift f type r v8 is very close to the Cyberster GT in performance.

The Trophy is really for cruising. Im sure an Xpower MG4 is quicker. But thats not the point of the Trophy. Range and comfortability come into it. As well of a sports car feel being RWD. The Trophy performance is in line with my old 370Z. Similar figures. Still quick enough for a daily. I did wonder if the German market would get a delimited Cyberster. Wouldn't be very green.

October is a long time. It will probably get moved up like some have. Which colour combo did you choose?

As I don't like to drive on Autobahn with such a car, and even when I do because of long distances l think Trophy will fit. I prefer smaller curvy streets.
I have choosen Cyberster Green to be a bit beside the mainstream. The grey one ist also very nice but I didn't want to have the same color as on my F-Type. Family didn't want to go to red or yellow.

That colour is not available for us in UK. Green Teal or something

October? Blimey. Here in the UK they seem to be in stock everywhere with dealers saying I can have one within a couple of weeks.

I had a dealer play down the range difference to me by saying the GT was probably only going to get 7-15 miles less than a Trophy. It's 100kg heavier, not an insignificant amount.

What sort of range are you getting from your GT on motorways at 70mph?

In my GT I’m getting about 2.8 miles/kWh - so about 50 miles per 25% of the battery.

I went for the Trophy purely for the increased range. The price difference fortunately wasn't a factor, and I don't really need the extra couple of seconds off the 0-60. It's already quick enough.
The only times I now take it out of comfort mode is when I'm at the front of a red traffic light on the outskirts of town...
The GT is also in a slightly higher insurance group, but again not a major influence.
Everything else is the same except for the larger wheels and the front motors?

How are you finding range in your Trophy? How many miles per kw on the motorway?
