I'm currently on software R40 in a 24 plate, but which was probably built late 2023. I'd like the ACC improved as it is useless, as are the automatic headlights and traffic sign recognition. Other randomly occurring software niggles abound: bluetooth disconnections, carplay icon greying out even though connected, black screens on start-up, radio not starting, traffic sign recognition failure warning mid journey then turning back on several miles later. There are other bugs too such as the voice control that will allow the change from usb source to radio and back but not if the radio is started first.

The software update thread is massive and technical. For those that have the latest software releases, are most of the above fixed apart from the bluetooth which I see is still a bane for people?

If they are, I cannot just present my car to a dealer. It is leased via Tusker.

Anybody have experience of whether they are open to pushing for software updates if I raise the issue with them? They've been frankly disappointing when I've queried things with them previously and don't want to waste my time arguing. They would not budge when I stated I usually have tyres changed at or before 3mm tread depth but they change the tyres on their cars at 2mm.

I won't be surprised if Tusker state updates are not essential and are not warranty applicable. The car won't be serviced at a main dealer as part of the lease package so I cannot just ask for the updates to be done then and I assume any service bulletin updates will not be applied either. A friend's Tusker car did not have any updates when serviced this way.

Thanks.

I am also in a lease with a different company and have found a similar apathy to looking after the car. This is my first experience of leasing a car and the lease company who own it are not treating it in a way that I would if it was mine.

I have had a similar servicing experience (lease company use the cheapest garage they can find or have a deal with) and have zero interest in updating software (I expect as most MG dealers would see a lease company booking and charge them for every second they have the car)

I am resigned to the fact that this is what a lease ownership experience is like and will probably never use this method of driving a car again.

On the upside I am not the one dealing with the depreciation.

They could potentially be warranty updates. Speak to your nearest dealer and get them to update via warranty if they agree. I don’t think you need to speak to Tusker for warranty issues as they shouldn’t be charged for them. Just approach your MG dealer directly.

I'm on a tusker vehicle, and had warrenty items done by dealer, including firmware update for unsafe LKA and the like. Simply report the issues as a fault to Tusker, and leave it to them to arrange with a dealership - you may need to "negotiate" the dealership to your locality, my car was supplied by a dealer 180 miles away, my local dealer is 3, so they "changed" dealer to the local one

I had a similar experience, wanted to get the ACC updates so went direct to my nearest MG dealer and complained about an occasional lane departure issue. They agree to do it under warranty, but because my car hadn't been serviced at an MG garage, they said the service book hadn't been updated and the warranty was invalid.

The dealership argued with Tusker for me and eventually they agreed to pay for the updates, I've been expecting to see a charge passed on to me through my wages but nothing yet and it's been over 6 months so fingers crossed I got away with it.

I'm going to speak to Tusker ahead of the next service to see if I can get a price/option to service with the dealer next time so I get any required updates as standard...

From what others have mentioned on the forum (UK?) dealers don’t do updates as part of service. It is always either a paid for job, or a warranty job (SAIC pays for those).

Dealers should perform any updates identified as (I can't remember the exact term but something like) service campaign notices from MG. For example where there has been a relatively minor update to a safety system such as LKA. These are not critical recall updates (like the one to fix the issue of people getting locked in their cars) but still serious enough to warrant them being applied at the next convenient opportunity. Of course this may or may not happen depending on the dealer.

Updates for things like the infotainment generally wouldn't come under these headings, so you might get the heating, ACC and LKA modules updated but not the infotainment (unless you ask for it and have a good dealer). Where the updates are required to be applied this would, I believe, generally be charged back to SAIC under warranty, but would often be undertaken as part of the service.

What concerns me, looking around for 2nd hand car, is if many of the leased cars haven't been serviced according to MG's schedule and/or updated on MG's computers, do all the warranties become invalid for the next user?

And what happens to the 2nd hand cars sold via MG dealers? Do the dealers buy them in cheap because they haven't been serviced correctly and then, magically, they are fully warrantied when the dealer sells them on for a handsome profit?
