Hi fellow MG friends,

Our MY22 ZS has a slow leak from the front drivers side tyre.

I'm wondering if it's safe to use tire repair sealant with the built-in pressure sensors?

I would recommend that for a slow puncture you drive to a good tyre shop and get it repaired properly (usually with a plug). The gunk tends to be only for temp measures (get you to a tyre repairer) and usually renders the tyre (and possibly sensors) knackered.

save it for emergency, as @Robf says, check how much is repair or just order a cheap replacement tyre. not 100% sure but sealant might mess up your tyre pressure readings ...
 
As everyone has said, a good puncture repair shop will inspect the tyre, find the damage and tell you if it’s repairable. Punctures on the main tread are usually fixed within 20 minutes or so. If it’s a side-wall puncture then it’s a new tyre, I’m afraid…
 
I'm aware that the tyre can be repaired or replaced at a tyre shop, thank you all for clarifying this :)

My question specifically relates to whether adding the included tire sealant will damage the built-in pressure sensor of the wheel.

I guess it is largely unknown at this stage.

I might just do it and see what happens, watch this space ?
 
I would really recommend against that. The tyre fix kit is for emergencies to allow you to limp the car to a shop. It will a) not last and b) gunk up the inside of the tyre, making a proper repair or replacement (which will be required no matter what) more difficult and expensive.
 
The “Gunk” is only aimed as a temporary repair method and should not be relied on as a long term fix.
Last time I priced a similar replacement cartridge from VW it was £80 !.
If is only a slow puncture, then there is likely only to be a nail / screw in the tread causing the problem.
If the problem is localised to the side wall, you are probably looking at a new tyre.
Either way, the tyres are the last thing between you and the road !.
 
I've had two front tyres renewed only yesterday. One of the tyres that I renewed had previously been punctured ( nail in perfectly good tread area) in early November last year. I always carry a can of Holts tyreweld. I had used this can to repair puncture and I used the tyre until yesterday.
I covered around 10000 miles since.
I asked the fitter if it had caused any damage of any sort to the tpms valve. He said everything is fine, no issues. I've had normal, as expected readings from my car last night and today.

But the big question remains .... does the "gunk" foul the pressure sensor?
Holts Tyreweld is a cheaper alternative to using the supplied MG canister of gunk.
If you use this product, Holts maintain that it does NOT harm the TPMS sensor.

I just carry a little tyre repair kit and a pump around with me. If the 'hole' is too large for one of those, it'll mean a new tyre anyway. I've never actually had to use it (touching everything made of wood).
