So I had a minor front end disagreement with a shrub, after the lane keep assist yanked the car off the road. It broke the cooling shutters and dented the bonnet and wings. My insurance repaired the bodywork and sent the car to the local MG dealer to recalibrate the camera. That is where things went wrong. They were unable to calibrate it, so then started replacing parts, including the harness. Unfortunately, whatever they do or replace it remains unable to calibrate. They have constantly been in touch with MG service support (snow something), but nothing works. They are now at a loss of what to do. Wait for this; they have had the car for 17 weeks!!!! That is FOUR MONTHS! All the while I am paying for the lease and insurance. They didn’t have a loan car available, and my insurance considered the repair complete (the further issues being covered under warranty), so I had no choice but to go out and lease another (not MG) car as I could not afford to rent one. At what point can I reject the car as unfixable? It is two years old. Honestly, I would never get another MG after this clusterf*ck! Anyone else had a similar experience? Any suggestions as to how I proceed? I cannot pay for both cars for much longer. The MG lease company, Santander, have been completely unhelpful.

Sounds like repairs take forever with MG UK. Although your lease company and their insurance also seem to be a big part of said cluster.

What are your options under your original lease contract? There will be clauses detailing how to end the lease prematurely, although I suspect they will cost you money. I would start by reading your lease agreement again carefully to understand your rights and obligations so you get an idea of what your options are.

Just a fundamental question, how can the repair be considered complete if the car has not been restored to the state it was pre repair.

That would be like replacing a damaged body panel and not painting it, an incomplete repair.

Just looked at how this reads and you obviously do not want it returned to a pre repaired state but a pre damaged state

There must be some redress under consumer regs.

Lease T's & C's must give lessees a get out clause for situations where a car provided by them is of unsatisfactory quality.

I would approach both the lease company and your insurance company.

The lease company to demand redress as you have been paying for months of a car you have not been able to use and the insurance company to put a rocket up it's arse and say why the f f f haven't you completed the repair on my car? And what are you going to do about my additional costs?

Have they said why they can't calibrate?
Does it not start or does it start then fail?
First time I tried it the calibration failed because I didn't follow the instructions quite right
I wouldn't be surprised if it was an operational error

They have no idea why it will not calibrate. It starts and runs, but, apparently pulls to the left! None of the driver assistance aids work.

LOL! Exactly what I did!!
Love the colour, a brand new Model Y in dark blue was parked outside my house this week, a vision of the future perhaps. Of course all this is personal choice but how nice that the choices are becoming more accessible.

This is why eventually we will all just buy a Tesla.

Not at their prices, and lack of actual buttons........

Yeah we'll see what the image of Tesla is going to do with wacky Musk and his political ambitions, there are already a lot of stickers on Etsy saying "we got the car before we knew he was insane", not a good indication I think.

Also, I wouldn't want to be associated with the generic Tesla driver.

I think most people buy a Tesla because it feels like a safe choice, and people feel good about fading into the masses. They're recognisable and can be stylish, like a VW golf, but they're boring to look at.

Look less at what people say and more at what they do. Plus he plays to the media and clearly feels he personally can make a difference.

Of course how we feel about such things is very personal and also who we think will solve the huge problems facing us all.

I've been waiting 14 months for a replacement housing for the rear camera (damaged, but not significantly by someone else - their insurance is covering it). Still haven't got it in stock apparently. I suspect I'll have returned the car at the end of the PCP before it's ever fixed...

Not convinced by this!

But the Renault Scenic (which may also have lots of foibles and idiosyncrasies) has a "turn everything I want off in one go" button, which is intriguing, and rather interesting.

When the time comes to choose again, we will look at the Scenic, the ID4, the Ioniq 5 and the Enyaq.
