URGENT INFO WANTED REGARDING MG ZS EV POWER LOSS ISSUE

I'm a journalist researching for an article I'm writing (for syndication) specifically about the MG ZS EV and any safety issue problems any driver has had with the vehicle stopping abruptly, loss of power or loss of control. This is in connection with someone who has had this happen twice with their ZS EV within 2 days and was a near fatal incident on the motorway. Please contact me ASAP here or by email at [email protected] for which I will be most grateful. Many thanks.
Hi this has also happened to me had 2 accident where car has shot forward & hit a wall & a bollard. It's in garage again & I won't be driving it again.

Were your previous cars manual or automatic gearbox?

Welcome Sue1111 to the forum on your first post.

I have found with automatics, both my electric now and Suzuki petrol car previously, there tends to be a 'nothing then lurch' when first moving (particularly in eco on MG).
I find it needs more subtlety & finese to overcome.

I had same happen to me, the car shot in reverse the other day, almost hit the car parked behind me ....
...
but, because I turned the knob the other way, R instead of D

Launch model owner here and let’s say of the first 200. If you have had the ZS serviced with all the updates applied, you shouldn’t now have any issues. However owners don’t always have their cars serviced properly and a number of dealers (note they aren’t owned by MG Motor) did not affect good and attentive service when it came to applying all the updates, be that in correct order or if at all.

In fairness, I don't believe there were any issues with the software/firmware for cars out of control even with the initial versions that were on the car.

The assist systems were always a nightmare, granted, but they've never addressed those issues anyway. But out of control issues, and cars that apparently set off on their own - that's not been a confirmed problem.

URGENT - this morning I parked, green P light came on (auto hold) so I was safely stopped and just when I turned around to fix something on the passenger seat, the car started moving just like that and almost hit the car parked in front ...
...
And what really happened is that my foot clipped the accelerator pedal whilst I was fiddling around and, of course, auto-hold released and the car started moving forward. Got the brake just in time... this time!

Next time someone says "but I slammed the brake" (yeah right!) or "the car launched by itself" ...

Haha I do that all the time in traffic, I have to remind myself to keep my foot clear of the accelerator when waiting in traffic :p

Auto-hold is not in Park.

I think auto-hold does have an issue in the about half- second delay while the brake disengages. This inclines the driver to accelerate more, thus the car jumps forward.
This is particularly obvious if you usually do not use auto-hold, like me.

If a car does something dangerous and unexpected then chances are that the driver made it happen rather than there being a mechanical fault. Mechanical faults due to manufacturing error, which are likely to cause serious damage, injury or death are so rare that readers, especially owners with thousands of safe driving miles, will be sceptical.
To the extent that it’s more likely to be a troll than a genuine poster.
Particularly when the anecdote contains little detail and zero accompanying evidence.
Not saying that it never happens. It’s just that such an extraordinary claim will require some decent evidence.

I've owned two MG ZS EVs, 2020, 2022 long range and the actions you describe "stopping . . . loss of control" have NEVER repeat never remotely manifested. In fact barring the unreliable app, it's near perfect. You can quote me. John Sauvé-Rodd. There isn't a better EV for the money.

I don't think the P light comes on when in autohold? As Zoomy says, they are different states. I have not tried it, but I presume when in Park, you can press the accelerator all you like but nothing will happen.

on Mk2 ZS there is green and red P on the dashboard. When you press gear selector P, red comes on and you are in "park" mode until you change to D or R. Green P comes on when in auto-hold which comes on automatically when you stop the car (assuming autohold is enabled)
