Hi all,

New member.

Partner has just bought a 2021 MG ZS. The car isn’t 3 years old until the end of next month, and has a couple of issues that we were expecting to be able to have fixed under warranty.

However, it now looks as though the car may be late on its service. Mileage is currently 28k, and it had a service in 2022 at 14k. Car is still saying service is due in 2k miles, but we’re obviously over based on time.

We’re assuming this will mean MG will void the warranty? Is there any way to get the warranty reinstated?

As far as I can tell, the 7 year warranty only really covers the HV battery, motor and corrosion after year 3, so we were specifically looking for a car just under 3 years old so any niggles could be sorted, but this situation looks as though it’s going to bite us hard now.

As far as we can find so far, just the one.
Tricky, and a "friend" I know is in the same boat. One missed service and hoping to smooth it out by having subsequent services timely done...

Book year 2 service right now before it's 3 years and 30k

What problems you have that you were hoping to fix under warranty?

Service already booked in for end of June (soonest they could fit us in), although it’s the 3 year one. Do you think we should change that to the 2 year one? Hadn’t considered that option tbh.

Will still be under 3 years old (just) when it goes in.

Issues are mainly front collision/auto emergency braking related (radar issue?), plus a seat occupancy sensor fault.

Then don't ask any questions and just say that you would like them to fix whatever needs fixing under the warranty and hope for the best... Don't draw attention to services and warranties.

They’ve already asked for mileage that car was last serviced at. Didn’t have any info available at the time, but suspect the same question will come up again.

Not so worried about the immediate repairs, as the dealer we bought the car from would no doubt have to cover those (non MG dealer), but losing the remainder of the 7 year warranty would definitely not be something we’d be too chuffed about.

Yes but remember that warranty is different for different parts of the car. 7 years is for battery only and motor I think, the rest is 1 to 3 years...

@profdraper posted warranty details recently in one of the threads...

Hi.
If you do a Google search for MG UK customer services and give them a call. They are really helpful. I was looking at one similar to yours with past service missed.
They told me that as long as I took it to a registered MG service garage, it would reinstate the warranty.
Hope this helps.

Yes, seen posts along these lines on other threads... "friend" of mine ? who bought second hand with missed service had it serviced immediately and waiting for one more service due in a few months to call customer services and check the warranty is still valid ... If not, keep an eye on battery health and trade in for another...

There is nothing in the functionality of those parts that would be affected by whether a service has been carried out or not.
Whilst they may be able to legally refuse the warranty claim you can argue that you have acted in good faith and you expect MG to do the same.
Good luck ?

Interesting. Do you have that in writing?

If I understand you correctly MG UK customer services are saying you could have a car that is (for example) 5 years old without having had any servicing done. And then just take it for a service at an MG dealer and it would be covered on the manufacturer's warranty again - is that really the case?
