Which? report on MG4 lane keep assist issues reported by This Is Money

Interesting thread. I had my first experience of LKA jerking the steering wheel in my hands this week. Not pleasant at all. It was on a motorway where the near side lane was coned off. The cones were a couple of feet inside their lane, I was in the middle lane and I had drifted to the near side (but still in my lane I'm sure) when it activated.

I've been driving with it on the lowest sensitivity setting and that's the first time it's triggered. But I'm now inclined to always turn it off. I've learnt here that you do that after readying the car. Until "readied" it was showing as alerting action only, not assist. (Also the Autohold slider is disable until the car is readied.)

So I'm now wondering what to do about the emergency brake assist, which I think defaults to the moderate setting. I will probably leave it on until I get a phantom braking experience.

It is disturbing that such unsafe technology got licensed. Someone mentioned it's easier to turn off with R33 via the quick (swipe-down) menu. Is that correct?

I've heard others also complaining that even in alert mode the system adjusts the steering. Just to be clear, does it always boot up in alert mode? I'm asking this because in the luxury/trophy models it always boots with ELK.

In th UK, "readying" the car (pressing the brake pedal) changes the mode from alert to assist.

Did the screen auto-switch between light and dark themes (or vice-versa)? It's been observed that this can cause LKA to revert to on with some cars - in the UK there's a software update that fixes this.

I can't see anything on the screens to indicate whether the LKA is active or disabled. Is that correct? It would be helpful to be able to check with a quick look.

Top-left of the driver display ... the symbol the looks a little like a ladder that is wider at the bottom and narrower at the top.

Yellow/Amber = LKA Off
White = LKA On but not detecting lanes
Green = LKA On and actively detecting lanes = will nudge the steering wheel in this mode when necessary or when the car thinks so anyway :)

yellow/amber: also when lka = on but alert mode is chosen?

I love the car but I hate LKA and auto braking and turn both of every time.
My Trophy ER is not yet on the latest software update - due hopefully with the first service in Nov. I understand that the new version will allow the horrid LKA to be turned off from the top-swipe-down screen, rather than going all through the vehicle menus; but can anyone tell me if the equally horrid EBA can also be turned off at the same time on the same swipe screen (as it presently comes on in tandem with LKA on the menus)?

Not had a problem with auto braking, I always turn LKA off but even when left on its no different from my previous VW to me.

I'm on software R40 so it maybe better than others have on older software. Although not sure if it correlates with R40 or another module.

Just returned from trip to France, my wife being slightly disabled means at toll booths
I have to get out and run around to collect ticket or pay. Each time LKA defaults back
to ON, Also on the long drive if I lift my bum of the seat it defaults to ON.
Question if I could short out the seat sensor so it thinks I'm in my seat would this
solve the problem or create more issues ???

IMO if you have the latest FVCM, FDR & EPS software it's fine with it on, it's a gentle nudge
Original on mine yanked & was dangerous
For phantom braking then same FVCM & FDR update & calibration should sort it

Both, both require a drive with lampposts/signs both sides as well as good road markings driving at 40-60 kmph, by me each one took about 2 min on a straight road one up it, then the other on the way back
