Whistling noise from rear spoiler (merged)

Hello, I’m experiencing the same problem. Between speeds of 60 and 90 kilometers per hour, there’s an irritating sound that resembles either metal scraping or a bird chirping. It’s truly unbearable. I was wondering if you were able to find a solution to your issue?

I’d appreciate any guidance or insights. Thank you!

Mine is booked for next week to have them "look at" the bulge. I get they can't confirm they'll do any work over the phone. My MG4 is a Jan 2024 build. The service desk person didn't seem to surprised to get another call on this.

Am I right in believing the tray in question is at the front of the car? I've just had a look and everything looks flat for the "seam" near the front wheels, or should I be looking closer to the front of the car.

EDIT: Actually, it seems to be the rear of the car I should be checking! I will get back to you...

Yeah that’ll be the one. I noticed mine starting to warp about 6-8 weeks after receiving the car (although perhaps it was like that when I got it, I wouldn’t know). The dealer (Wangara MG) said they have to look at it before they can do the remedial work, so here’s hoping they won’t fob me off. It’s not as bad as I’ve seen on some pictures, but it is definitely warping. It’ll be an interesting test to see if I want to go back there for service in two years time.

There is a service campaign (probably the wrong term) that should be applied under warranty:

I'm in Australia, but I'm 95% sure that the A at the front doesn't make it specific to Australia.

Mind you, the free version is basically a metal bracket and some longer bolts; your solution looks slightly neater. Not that one often looks under the car...

This is to fix what we seem to be calling the "under-tray bulge". It's sad to see these still turning up.

The European equivalent is think TI-20231228-EH32.

has a photo of a typical example. Mine was possibly not that bad and certainly no worse - it was fixed without having to persuade them at all.

My dealer has only recently taken over the franchise so was unaware of the problem, but were quite happy when I showed them the document and photo.

Did you install the bracket with longer bolts, or did you replace the whole under-tray?

My understanding is that there is some weird flaw in the design of the captive nuts and/or bolts are too short. So it seems that the full fix is the bracket plus some longer bolts, possibly with large washers.

There might be clues in the MG bulletin relating to the bracket replacement. From memory, it has been posted on this forum somewhere.

Yes, I checked, and unfortunately, the sound doesn t change based on the road condition; it only appears or doesnt appear depending on the speed.

I have a whistling noise from the rear of the car when driving between 40mph and 70mph (not that I ever drive above the 70mph speed limit).

After much pestering the dealership informed me there was a new bracket that could be fitted between the 2 plastic undertrays as this is where the noise was coming from. It's booked in at the end of the month.

I found the root cause of my disturbing noise problem. The issue was caused by the spoiler. I will add photos of the solution, and I will also contact the service for a resolution. I will update again.

I think someone posted some time ago that they ran a bead of silicone sealant along the join in the spoiler to stop the whistling.

I haven't tried this solution before. I will try it and post a reply.

I have updated my profile. I own a Trophy ER (v1 that i've bought end of 2022) I'm in France btw Is that a typo? Did you mean end of 2023? (The ER wasn't available in 2022, it came out in Q3 2023). Or did you mean the Trophy LR?

I was at the service center last Saturday. I wanted this problem to be solved for the second time.
They stated that they have used a silicone gel to the area. But the noise is still there.

When I find something that will not damage my vehicle's paint, I will try the @bllgn 's solution.
