Good Morning Learned Members.

So I am sitting in a car park waiting for my wife to come out of the supermarket and even now, 11 months into ownership, I am still finding things out about my car!

Now I knew I had a way of connecting to my house WiFi through the wireless network, and assumed the wireless hotspot was like a relay station for my home's wifi.

But I connected to the vehicle hotspot which uses the car's data? and was amazed that, not only could I browse the internet, but also the speed of service.

Does anyone know how much data is available and who is paying for it?

What happens if you use it all?

I've not seen any paperwork stating this with my car.

Thanks In Advance. ?

I've used the hotspot ever since I got the car last year and discovered it. I have a PAYG phone so it's a definite bonus. As to limits, see quote below from the 'Android auto with no SIM card' thread.

My wife streamed 3+ hours of Netflix with no problem using the car's hotspot on a recent long journey. She was using an old tablet with no sim so it was definitely using the hotspot. She's done that a few times on long journeys and so far no limits have kicked in.

If this is true, it's a game changer!

No longer will my wife suffer the call 'Mum, I need your WiFi' from the back seat!

Just connect our DD's tablet to the car and, bingo!!
Yep! My wife streams Netflix at the same time as my granddaughter in the back seat streams some other stuff (who knows what?!!) and it all works fine off the car's hotspot.

I wonder if all of the WiFi traffic goes through some lovely Government funded server in China? Should a VPN be considered when using the car as a hotspot?

I doubt it!
My server for the test up above was Cilix in Andover.
Anyways, I'm not sure the Chinese government would be interested in me viewing "Cats do the funniest things" on YouTube! ?

they would have to follow UK rules on data management so I don't think this will be an issue.
